And without scanning this thread, where can I get some? Stamped Made in Germany?

German Castrol is Castrol Syntec 0w30. If it doesn't say 'made in germany' on the back of the bottle it isn't German Castrol.

Pep Boys and Advance auto carry it. If you buy it when it's on sale the price is reasonable. If you just buy it when you need it, you'll probably be dealing with $40+ oil changes after buying a filter to go with it.

I've used GC in each of my turbo FHI cars since 2005 or 2006. Switching to it (from Amsoil) got rid of the oil consumption in my '04 WRX. I used it from the first day I switched to synthetic in the '06 WRX (no consumption problems ever) and moved the 92x to it when I added the VF39.

Re: What Synthetic oil are you using?

GC is pretty awesome.  I stretched one interval to 7.5k, since I was doing a lot of very long distance driving (UT to CA to UT to CO to UT to MO to FL).  I lost 1/3rd quart over the first 3k miles, then nothing for the next 4.5k.  I'm at 3.75k on this change, and just got another 5 qts and a K&N oil filter for $29 or whatever at Autozone.  I use the Subaru filters, though.

The 0W30 GC claims to be more viscous than any Castrol 5W30 at operating temperature (you can find the data sheets online), so don't worry about the rating.

Re: What Synthetic oil are you using?

Switching it up a bit, 2 qt. valvoline vr-1 syn 10w-30 racing oil and  2+ qt. rotella t6 5w-40. Both have high zinc content, and I'm catless.

Oh yes, the age old Mobil1 argument.

Everyone knows Mobil1 5W-30 is thinner than any other synthetic 5W-30.  star

Update on the valvoline vr-1 syn 10w-30 racing oil + rotella t6 syn 5w-40 combination after the first run. No oil burn off at all during the 5000 miles driven, fuel consumption remain the same, very promising so far.

2 qt. vr-1 and 2+ qt. Shell T6. I change it up because I figure the extra zinc content are always welcome, and I'm catless anyway. We'll see how this second run come out.

Re: What Synthetic oil are you using?

If you're going Mobil 1, Costco usually has a case at a decent price.  I also just found out AAA members get a discount at NAPA parts stores... not sure how much, I think 7% or something, but hey something is better then nothing.

As much as I hate to say it, Wal-Mart is usually tough to beat on prices for the more common brands....
