I made a SAAB logo splash screen for TomTom units. It's basic -- just the
logo, but I like it.
(glare in the top left corner and dust in the bottom right corner not include in the actual logo screen -- its just the logo on black background)
Simply plug in your TomTom unit to your computer using the USB cable it came with; you will see a new drive appear in My Computer (or on your desktop if you are on a Mac). Rename the splash.bmp file that comes on the unit (just in case you don't like mine), then download the saab logo splash.bmp file and copy it over to the TomTom.
It looks great and is very classy.
If you own a 3.5" screen TomTom unit, like the TomTom ONE or similar, download this splash.bmp file and put it into your TomTom (replace the existing splash.bmp or rename the existing one)
If you own a 4" screen TomTom unit, like the TomTom ONE XL or similar, download this splash.bmp file and put it into your TomTom (replace the existing splash.bmp or rename the existing one)
You might need to right click on the link and do Save As or Download Link so that it doesn't just show you the picture.
Ask if you have any problems...

ok, i got the file on my computer and moved it to the tomtom file, but cant get it to "load' on the tomtom...help

where exactly did you move it to? you'll know you are in the right place if there is already a file named splash.bmp there -- you want to replace that with the saab logo

Now I got it where there is nothing on the screen when it comes on...oops
I hought bI put it where it said splash...there was a pic of the tomtom screen when it first comes on and the yellow screen when it powers down...
Oh, BTW I havent figured out how to make the tomtom power up when it gets external power either...

that is strange... if you plug it in to the computer and then go to My Computer (where you see all of your hard drives and cd drives and stuff), do you see the TomTom listed? it might be called INTERNAL or something else strange. Just put the splash.bmp that you download from above into there.
be sure you got the right one for the XL screen: http://ion9.com/tomtom/bigscreen/griffin/splash.bmp

scottgf try this file:
http://ion9.com/tomtom/bigscreen/griffin/splashw.bmp
apparently (i didn't know this) some TomTom widescreen units require the file to be called splashw.bmp (note the w)... try downloading and putting this one on there and see if that works

I open the file that says tomtom (e) and i can see the file with the saab logo and the yellow logo when you power it down, i just cant figure out how to make the saab logo work....remember im computer stupid..
Offline
ok if you are in E then you are in the right place... is the file with the saab logo named splash (or try renaming it to splashw)? if so it should be working...
Offline
if not i might need to re-save the file out maybe i just saved it in wrong format -- the one for the small screen tomtoms worked for me but i dont have a big one to test with
Offline
the file splashw is there i just cant get it to work...how do i tell the tomtom to use it? do i need to unplug it and plug it back in?

try this file:
http://ion9.com/tomtom/bigscreen/viper/splashw.bmp
you might need to rename it to just splash instead of splashw, i'm not sure -- whatever worked for the saab logo, do for this one

Hmmm, I think you guys convinced me to keep my TomTomONE. 'specially since I can now have a cool logo to put on it. Guess I'll have to open the package now.
Thanks for the logo, Iota.
Hmmm, any chance of also making an //S car logo?
Oh, and BTW. Happy Birthday Iota!!!

i can make anything you want (actually anyone really can, its just a matter of resizing an image and saving it in the right format)... if you find a logo or picture online that you want converted to a tomtom start screen just post up a link
oh and by the way, you will see this screen when you turn the unit ON and OFF if you disable the "remind me to take the gps out of the car" feature in the options (i forget the actual name of the setting, its in there somewhere). If you have that feature turned on, the unit uses a different picture for turning OFF as it does for turning ON; otherwise it shows the same one both times

is the splash.bmp file inside any folder or subfolder? I have tomtom 6 US and Canada on my 8525 but i couldn't locate the splash.bmp. i guess the software versions are different. it'd be really cool to have the royal griffin...
Offline
the tomtom pda versions are different than the regular tomtom brand units, not sure how to change the splash screen on those (if its even possible, which i doubt)

Thanks Iota. Gotta get the TomTom out and do the upload. And I'll try sending you a picture of the //S car logo later in the week, just in case you have nothin' to do. I know you don't b/c it's cold enough out now that your plumbing is probably frozen so it can't leak or clog.
Hope all is well in the house...
