Re: Official wristwatch thread.

I am partial to Citizens - not sure why, I know they aren't the best watches out there, but I can't really afford the best watches out there, so there you go.  I like the Eco-Drive, it makes me feel special.

My collection:

1. Citizen Eco-drive perpetual calendar - similar to the one fullyloadedaero posted.  Multi-function watch with analog display only.  I love how the hands move when you change settings.  I just wish they moved a little faster sometimes.  Like this picture, but with a gray face.
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/2738/51fti2kwxnlsl500aa280lg1.th.jpg

2. Citizen Eco-drive World Time.  Grey market ani-digi with multi-function.  Great watch unless you have to fix it.  It took 6 months to get a scratched crystal replaced.  Sealed caseback - it took a guy trained by Rolex to even open the thing.

3. Timex Ani-Digi.  The one from Stranger Than Fiction.  This is my weekend watch.  I love that it has a nice big digital display, but it can be turned off, which makes for a much classier look when you don't need the digital features.
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6046/41dzrw7ttqlss500ni5.th.jpg

4. Fossil Speedway - don't wear this much anymore, not sure why I still have it.

5. Timex Ironman Datalink - old watch, lives permanently on my bike now so I have something I don't mind getting scratched up when I ride trails.

Re: Official wristwatch thread.

Nice watches.  I love the clear back of the Speedmaster, definetly a nice watch.   Its hilarious how they are approved for NASA blah blah, just a business deal (don't get me wrong, the speedmaster is an impressive one).

Anways, I have two nice ones.   Breitling M1 Avenger.  It is getting it's battery replaced (95 bucks for a freaking battery replacement, yikes).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/avmaviator/DSC04594.jpg

My other one is a Baume & Mercier, which I am ashamed of forgetting which model it is.  I have had it for a while.

Re: Official wristwatch thread.

Not a watch collector, but certainly appreciate nice watches.  I have an all stainless Ebel Discovery ultra thin dive watch.  Two Tissots -- an all stainless dive chrono and a stainless/gold chrono.  And an old Hamilton dress watch that used to be my dad's.  I used to have a Tag Formula One (one of the original all "plastic" ones), but it basically fell apart.  My next watch is going to be utilitarian.

I got a set of cheap-o watchmakers tools on ebay for $7, work well enough for adding/removing links, changing batteries, etc by myself... i figure if i actually ever break anything, then i'll take it in to watch place and pay the $95...

.

There was no NASA/Omega business deal.  Nasa purchased the watch over the counter at a watch store and tested them along with 14 other brands.  The tests were actually quite intensive.  To learn more go to www.speedmaster-mission.net

On another note, watch collecting is great and its interesting to learn about the intricate movements.

Also, they don't depreciate (depending on brand) as fast as many other hobbies (cars etcs..)  Most of my watches have appreciated over time.  For the GMT i was recently offered 6500 when  I paid 4k a year ago.  Not a bad jump.  But you have to know how to pick them.

Can you actually work on expensive watches yourself?  My Swiss Army watch can not be opened by anyone but the factory without fear or voiding warranty or damaging parts ( there may be a guy or two out there that can do it with out damage ) but I have not found a person yet that could convince me to let them try.  It has to be sent to Connecticut for everything.  Kind of sucks by my watch did start out life as a basic Infantry model and after breaking the body twice where the pins connect (they used to be plastic bodies) they upgraded me to the all metal watch for $70.  The price difference between the two was over 150 at the time

sure, you *CAN*, I don't mind trying it on my $100 watch; but if I had a $4000 watch I would probably be more apt to pay the $100 to get something done smile but i figure it was worth mentioning since battery replacement is so easy to do and is so common that little is likely to go wrong. on the other hand i'd never open up an "automatic" watch for fear of shit popping out everywhere...

Re: Official wristwatch thread.

Had I looked more carefully at the pics of the back of that Speedmaster I would have seen that the back did indeed have key locations.  My Swiss Army does not have standard key cuts. thus requiring a trip to Connecticut via UPS for battery change or any other repairs.

Re: Official wristwatch thread.

My grey market citizen has a solid caseback, so any repairs have to be done through the front of the watch.  I took it to a couple jewelry stores and they wouldn't even touch it.  Finally one place said they would fix it, but it took them three tries to get it right.  I should have sent it out.  I can't even imagine trying to fix it myself.

And this for a watch only worth a lousy couple hundred at most.  I think I would be afraid to even wear one worth a couple grand.

Re: Official wristwatch thread.

I too love watches, however, I dont own any...

I would like to get a Tag Heuer Carrera without the metal band, only because that is the cheapest watch that I really like... All the other watches are much more, such as Panerai (few different ones), Bell & Ross PVD, Hunlot Big Bang, IWC Big Pilot just to name a few.

Re: Official wristwatch thread.

Not entirely sure. It was given to me by someone who worked for Saab when I mentioned I didn't have a watch that would go well with dress clothes. He had an extra. So it's now my go-to watch. I like it because it has a small face, whereas all the other watches I have owned are large and thick, thus a nice change.

Re: Official wristwatch thread.

Nice collection...

I have a Tissot T-Race, Citizen Titanium Eco-Drive (don't wear much), and a Tag Heuer Kirium Chrono.

I graduate as soon as I finish my internship report so there is another Tag coming probably a Carrera.

I tried on an Omega Planet Ocean. Love it, wish I could afford it.

Re: Official wristwatch thread.

bumping the most recent watch thread ( that doesn't make me cringe ) because I broke down and bought a new watch

I was at work today and realized that the date was wrong on my old faithful ( had it just over 12yrs now )
http://aycu09.webshots.com/image/42488/2004385964741514476_rs.jpg
Turns out that the crown is popped half way out but the date is ok.  Adjusted the time to match the time clock and headed home.  Sitting on the couch and realize the crown is popped out again and the date has advanced two days.  Push the crown in and then pull it half way to set date and it works fine for a few clicks and then there is a click click click and the date is not moving  banghead

Turns out there is no Swiss Army brand anymore ( everything got rolled into Victorniox ) now there is more than one authorized repair center but I will still use the CT location I have been dealing with for the past 10yrs since the first time my watch needed repair.

Realizing that Swiss Army is no more I quickly searched for the only other watch I ever seriously considered buying and found it on Ebay.  I can't believe I have a second watch on the way as I swore I would never own another.   Guess I needed it as I hate the time I have no watch and now I have something for those clandestine stealth ninja missions at night.

Hope you enjoyed that.  It can be very addicting and expensive hobby.

I'm pretty sure that Omega is a fake. One of my many watches is an Omega Seamaster and when I was purchasing it I tried the Speedmaster on. You can't see the internals on it. The wikipedia entry shows the rear of the watch that I remember. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Spee … ofessional

Generally speaking if a Rolex, Omega, etc. has viewable internals it is a fake. http://www.productdose.com/article.php?article_id=6460
