Replacement key and reprogramming remote

I just picked up my 2005 9-2x Aero this morning.
banana
Can't wait to get off work and go for a long drive!

Problem is, the seller lost his keys a few weeks ago and only had one key and key fob for me.  Bummer for me but hopefully it won't be too difficult to get another spare key/key fob.  I think I saw somewhere on this forum that I can get a copy of the actual key made at any hardware store and I just need to tell them the key is actually for a 2005 Subaru (axxess blank #38).  Can anyone confirm/deny it's that easy to get a copy of the key made?  A buddy of mine as a 2004 9-3, lost his keys and Saab is going to charge him $500 for a new replacement!

Key fob - I saw this for sale on eBay, a used fob for a 9-2x:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-SAAB … ccessories

Would this be OK for me to buy as a replacement remote fob?  Has anyone ever reprogrammed a remote before and if so can you provide some DIY instructions?

Thanks!

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

I just happened to lose my only remote myself, and put in an order through www.originalkeyless.com yesterday.  I'm yet to receive it, as it's yet to ship, but I'll let you know how it goes...  If you order through them, they sent me a coupon code "RC2009" for 10% off, so you can use that.  E-Mail confirmation was prompt, so that's all I can offer for now as far as customer service is concerned.

To answer your other question, yes, even Wal-Mart can make you a key.  That's where I got my spare.  I don't know the specific code for it, but I showed them my key and they figured it out just fine.

Additionally I also would like to know how to program the remote, though in my situation programing it without another one present.  If anyone knows please chime in.

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

It's in the manual.
complicated process of opening/closing door, turning key off to on 10 times, and then something else.

You can find remote fobs cheaply on ebay, they are subaru remotes of the same vintage...

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

Thanks!  Very easy indeed, bought a used remote off eBay for around $30, reprogrammed the alarm following the instructions in the manual.

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

I went to local Lowe's, said I needed key blank #38.  He cut key, $1.71, and car started right up.

Did the replacement remote arrive and did it work?  thanks

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

Mine is yet to arrive, but it has shipped.  I, however, found my lost key and remote two days ago, so I guess now I'll have an extra remote... can't hurt.

To reprogram your remote or program a new remote:

1. Deactivate alarm if equipped.

2. Open drivers door, get in vehicle and close door. (all other doors closed)

3. Within 15 seconds, turn ignition to ON position and back to LOCK position 10 times.
    Leave key in ignition.
Horn will sound once to indicate you have entered programming mode.

4. Within in 45 seconds:
    A. Open and close drivers door.
    B. Press LOCK or UNLOCK button on remote you want to program.
Horn sounds twice to indicate remote was programmed.

5. To program additional remotes repeat steps 4A and 4B for each remote
Horn will sound after each remote is programmed.

6. When the last remote has been programmed remove key from ignition.
Horn will sound three times to indicate exit of programming mode.

7. Test remote(s).

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

Heh, thanks for the thiread guys, I've been trying to get my key duplicated.

Dealer wants 15$, but can't confirm it'd work (local subie dealer, hate them.)
Went to a Saab dealer, they were SO much nicer, but they couldn't cut the key but for 15$, they'd order me the key + key code (may do it for the master key)

Went to Walmart and ACE, they tried but couldn't do it, though I said 04' WRX.

Going to try saying that key blank.  banana

You should just change out the locks on your doors to accept key blanks.  You'd save the cost of having future keys cut!

Be sure to turn key all the way to "lock."  I had problems, but re-doing, turning key all the way fixed it. smile

Ilco #38 works!

So now I have a few plain metal keys, need to find a few fancy rubber hand ones. big_smile

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

Does anyone know where I can find a key with a rubber head that looks similar to the stock keys?

The Axxess blank that all the local stores have looks a tiny bit ghetto and I dont want to have to source a new one from Saab

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

I have a 2005 92X.  I replaced the CR2032 battery in both my remotes (FCC ID A269ZUA11).  I followed the manual's instruction to synchronize the remotes (click Unlock or Lock button 6 times), but I am still locked out of my car.

If I use the key to open the car door, will I be able to drive it?  I'm fine with this solution if it works.  At this point I could care less about keyless entry.  However, will the alarm go off and since neither remote works, I'll have no way to shut it off?

Thanks for your advice.

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

If you locked the car with the remote, the alarm is gonna go off if you unlock it with a key iirc.

To turn the alarm off, I think you put the key in the ignition and switch between off and on something like 5 times (or maybe it's three times?).  You don't switch between off and start, just off an on.  Then you should be able to start it and drive like normal.

Someone else chime in if I'm misremembering this....

Oh, and not to be a dick or anything, but once you get in your car, this would be a good time to refamiliarize yourself with the manual so you'll know this stuff in the future.

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

Thanks for all your information. Unfortunately is hasn't helped me. I bought a 2005 9-2x Linera from my son and the fob had been run over and seems to be kaput. Apparently the system is armed because I trip the alarm every time I open the doors w/ my key. What a hassle! I ordered a fob from ebay, as someone suggested, and tried to program according to the manual (and using some of your suggestions), but have never been able to get past Step 4, as the horn never beeps after turning the key on/lock 10 times.

I wonder if since the system seems to be armed and the original fob is inoperable, if that is the problem, since Step 1 seems to be to disarm and I have no way top do that. I am major stressed, but if there was a Saab dealer in our city (not) who could program for me I would gladly pay them. As it is, I may have to drive 100 miles to Atlanta to get it done.

Anyone have an idea?

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

Do you guys know if the remotes made for the 05 wrx/impreza/legacy/etc, will work with the 9-2x? Mine came with one remote, and two keys, and ebay wants 50$ for a saab key fob, while the Subaru key fobs are cheaper, (same two button remote. FCC ID #'s match too).

Re: Replacement key and reprogramming remote

Got 2 keys made at Home Depot for about $2 each.  Asked for Axxess blank #38.  He put the original and the blank #38 in the laser cutting machine and made perfect copies that work in the ignition and the doors.  I gave him the valet key, that doesn't have the black rubber.
If the car is locked and the door is unlocked using ANY key the alarm will sound.
To turn the alarm off, you put the key in the ignition and switch fast between off and on 3 times.  It is just off and on, NOT off and start.
