Damn, I own some rare cars. 1 of 1937 and 1 of 791 in the US. Both special "performance" versions of the specific model, which supposedly adds to possible collector value. Sadly, in both cases, I think not.

Just think in 5 more years how rare these cars will be then.  It's interesting to see it as 1 in 3 92X owners are on the forum.

Very cool!  Thanks for doing the leg work of breaking down the numbers.  banana  Brilliant Red is rare for sure!  I've only seen one red 2.5i before and never another red Aero in person.

Re: Finally! Solid overall production figures for the 9-2x!

Another interesting stat would be 92x's as a percentage of all Imprezas for the same time period, my first thought was "Wow just over 10K out of 1.6 million", but then I realized that the 1.6mil was all Imprezas produced to date.

Re: Finally! Solid overall production figures for the 9-2x!

Thanks guys - this hasn't exactly been easy to track down. GM and Saab certainly muddled up my quest. The irony is that the data came directly from the manufacturer - FHI. Neither Saab or GM seem to know how many they made, or where to even look to figure it out.

As another side note, I think that all of the cars that were produced for FHI's "2007" fiscal year (144) went to Canada.

Re: Finally! Solid overall production figures for the 9-2x!

If you want data on all of the 92x's produced, write a program that will create a list of all possible VIN's, get an unlimited carfax account, and create a macro to run ever possible VIN through their database.  The results should be informative (and possibly overwhelming!)

Re: Finally! Solid overall production figures for the 9-2x!

arrow-up Kind of a good idea, but the only way to generate a list like that would be to create hundreds of thousands of VINs, with only 10,500 correct hits.

There are too many variables in the VIN list, i.e. the infamous "check digit", which is 1-9 or X. Taking that into account (and none of the other variable digits in the VIN) generates 105,000 different possibilities. Then there is the trim/trans/engine digits in the VIN. Exponential growth, anyone?

Overwhelming doesn't begin to describe it...  sad

Re: Finally! Solid overall production figures for the 9-2x!

At this point, I think that the only way to get a more accurate breakdown for colors and equipment will be manual at this point. This data is not available publicly AFAIK.

This is how I have gotten my color data thus far (mostly from cars.com and CPO Saabs).

Again, if anyone would volunteer the year, last 4 digits of a VIN, as well as optional equipment and color, the sample size will help to get a better idea just how rare Brilliant Red or Nordic Grey really is.

Send me a PM. The only info in it need be as follows:
2005
0060
cold/premium
black

This info will be completely private, and only used to build a color database. If you don't want to volunteer data, you're totally free to opt out - just don't flame on this thread because you think I'm going to register your car in Singapore or spam you with Viagra coupons.

Thanks -

Matt

Cheap shot!  I am an OG member from 05 with an 05 Linear 4EAT.  I have a background in the auto industry and am genuinely interested in the aesthetics of car design and automobile marketing.  I enjoy reading this board because it's quite a phenomenon in and of itself and has a reasonably civil and interesting reader base.  4EAT drivers probably don't comment much because they are frequently stereotyped by those members who are into Aero MTs, tuning, showing off, and mouthing off.  It's just not worth the effort to get involved in that kind of discussion anymore (there were definitely a few "merits of Linears" threads in 05 and 06, but they became repetitive, so there was no value in continuing to reiterate the points).

Keep in mind that used Aeros, due to the Subaru WRX connection, Subaru fan base, young male target customer, individual by owner sales pattern, and attractive price point are more likely to find their way into the hands of self-anointed young male car experts who would also be the type of person who frequents boards.  So, it's more a case of car enthusiasm intersecting with typical board reading demographics, than simply whether or not one "likes cars".

But I'm sure you knew that...  driving

GM does have monthly and annual sales data that would be easily accessible to those who have the database access.  Sales does not equal production (some cars get damaged and are scrapped, some are used as test, demo, or concept cars inside the company and are rendered unsalable, etc.), but it would be close.  You are just not in touch with someone who has the right access and feels comfortable sharing the data.  There are definitely rules against providing that data unless it is approved.

Saab is in transition to new ownership at the moment.  Responding to the fan base on minor points for a discontinued vehicle is unfortunately not likely to be a priority for them.

I understand.  I'm a linear owner as well, 5MT though.  I'm just making a generalization of the greater population of 4EAT Linear owners.  The vast majority of members here have Aeros, and it just seems like the 4EAT Linear would be the least desirable for a "car guy".

The only data that I am currently in search of is for Canada production. I have exact data for US production. Saab is going away in Canada, and GM is obviously not interested in a small fry like me. All of the Canada information (press releases, etc.) for monthly sales figures were by brands, and did not get down to the model detail. If you have access to, or know of, a source for the information I need, I'm all ears.

Re: Finally! Solid overall production figures for the 9-2x!

I can't believe no Canadian guys have said this yet. We did not get any Aero's in 2006.

http://www.canadiandriver.com/2006/10/0 … 5-2006.htm

In 2006, the Aero model was dropped. It’s unclear whether there will be a 2007 9-2X, but speculation and rumour has it that it will be discontinued to make way for a future small crossover vehicle that might be called the 9-4 or 9-4X.

Re: Finally! Solid overall production figures for the 9-2x!

Since I still don't have anything but estimated figures on Canada production, this is new to me as well. I did, however, find this GM press release that backs up what you're saying:

http://media.gm.com/ca/gm/en/products/s … ab92X.html

Looks like only one trim level...

Can anyone else in Canada confirm this? If so, a 2006 Aero just got rarer.
