but, someone should contact Seibon and see what the min purchase for a 9-2x hood to be built would be.  it's worth a shot  cool

Re: body kits

I looked on the seibon website faq's and it looks like all they need is a minimum order of 20 to start a custom one off group buy.

yeah I was thinking on my car (black linear)
but no, I wouldn't be compelled to spend the money.
Also I doubt anything is as nicely made as stock.

Re: body kits

a carbon fiber hood would look good on any color, but probably best on black.

in general, how much less to carbon fiber hoods weigh than stock hoods? on the wrx/STi for example

I would assume close to zero since Seibon doesn't use a dry carbon, but rather just wraps a fiberglass hood.  They may actually weigh more, since the Aero hood is pretty light.

Re: body kits

CF hoods very rarely look good and from personal experience the fit is almost always garbage. I had a cf hood on my E36 because it was the cheapest alternative to replacing my hood at the time. It was on a black car and I hated the look.

Okay so while this keeps being brought up. Is there anyone we can convince to make a V-limited style lip for our cars other than seibon? I would not mind trying to organize something like this at least to figure out a reasonable cost for the work required.

wouldn't a Seibon v-limited lip be less of an issue w/poor fitment than a hood?  alignment isn't AS crucial, as there aren't really body gaps per se.

Oh definitely, just that my personal preference would be an ABS plasic lip, then FG and CF would be last on the list since it would most likely be the least cost effective to make.

In low volumes I think fiberglass or carbon fibre would be easier.  ABS requires some significant equipment whereas a fiberglass or carbon fibre lip can be made in one's garage with a foam plug, some epoxy, and strips of material.

Re: body kits

Unless it's dry carbon they generally weigh the same or more than the wrx/sti aluminum hoods.
The weight savings would be substantial for us and the 08+ wrx/sti steel hooded folks, be it fiberglass, wet or dry carbon.
This is the reason I went with the jdm sport impreza aluminum hood versus the rs or rs carbon hoods for my impreza. I don't even think anyone was making a dry carbon rs hood at the time.

Re: body kits

Ya sorry about that, I put ABS as my personal preference. The CF comment was meant to be compared to a FG replica. I know local guys here charge almost double for CF lips when they have FG ones.

Maybe we should get in touch with seibon then, but would they only do CF or could they do FG to try and keep costs low? I wouldn't mind trying to make a v limited rep fit on our car but since there's considerably less Canadian members on here it wouldn't make sense to find a local guy to make them since shipping it to most of you might be impractical.

Re: body kits

i'd only be interested in the carbon fiber hood if there is a significant weight saving.  otherwise, it's just for looks  unamused

Re: body kits

There won't be any weight savings with a CF hood.  Too bad I decided to stop modding my car, I would be in for a hood and/or a lip.  Still would be interested in a lip  cool
