Re: My new '05 Saabaru...

Oh, forgot to add.  Removed the engine on Mon., found #4 rod bearing failure.  Block halves, crank and cyl. heads are at the machine shop.  Turbo is on its way to Blouch for an overhaul and new billet compressor wheel.  Up next, forged pistons, ARP head studs, 25psi boost!

Re: My new '05 Saabaru...

I tend to frequent the Nasioc forums more...either way, it's nice to have a dedicated forum for this ride.   I really like it.  The only thing I'd like to change/modify body wise is the grille.  I'd really like an all black look.

Black grill is done.  Looks amazing!  Now to black out the headlights....that's a bit more tricky.

Still waiting on phone call from machine shop.  Turbo should arrive today at Blouch for a rebuild.

OP, you are mentioned in an old thread about this car as doing an engine install.  What's the story between then and how you acquired this car?

Re: My new '05 Saabaru...

I installed pretty much everything on the car.  Turns out the dowel pin(locates cam gear) on one of the Helix cams was in too far.  This caused the gear to spin thus resulting in a cam timing error or rather the engine to be off time.  In any case, I have no idea who built the motor after I moved from West Palm Beach to Mobile.  The vehicle eventually broke some other items, tranny and the like.  Then it sat for some 18mos in a parking garage.  A few weeks ago, I was awakened by my 2yrs old daughter.  Having nothing to do I got on a local S. Florida forum.  There she was in the for sale section.  I sent the PM saying I'd be there in a week to pick the car up.

Currently, the engine is out of the car and at the machine shop.  I'm awaiting to hear if the cams are repairable.  The block, I'm told, is out of round and the crankshaft is toast.  I purchased the car with the engine locked up.    SO, about the only thing I know is that the pistons are Wiseco(stock bore) and that they should be reuseable.  Also, the Blouch 20g is at Blouch to get an overhaul and also install their new Billet compressor wheel.  If I am able to use the cams, Wiseco pistons and install ARP head bolts and ARP rod bolts.....and given that the car made 340whp before without the cams or header or billet wheel....I'm guessing that a hp figure of over 350whp is acheiveable.

I am having to purchase a used block in order to get this motor built.  That along with new gaskets and timing belt is costing me some dough.  Lastly, I am replacing the Prodrive wheels with a bigger/wider wheel setup.  More on that once I get them installed(pics are sure to come).

Re: My new '05 Saabaru...

Cliff notes:
-I used to work on the car when employed at Japtrix
-Purchased car with blown engine, #4 rod bearing failure and locked up motor
-Engine was torn down and sent to machine shop
-Block is toast and so is crank
-Helix cams should be able to get fixed and installed
-Blouch 20g is getting rebuilt and billet compressor wheel installed
-ARP rod and head bolts to be installed
-Lastly, once running I'll post pics of the new wheels

Yup, I had no intentions of replacing my 99 Impreza Rs coupe with a wagon.....but I take it as fate.   This car needed some TLC badly.

Re: My new '05 Saabaru...

Got some news from the machine shop today.....Crank is toast mad, but the cams have been repaired.  By that I mean that the dowel pins have been removed and reset using a spare WRX cam as the mock-up for proper pin length.  I'm really happy about that because now I should be able to rev to 8k!!!  As far as the crank.....I'll probably get an '08 Sti unit being that they are nitrided from the factory.  Just for added securities.  Lastly, I'll be re-installing the aftermarket header.  I will be wrapping it before hand to help with heat retention.
As far as the cylinder heads, I'm told by the machine shop that there are a few valves that aren't sealing 100%.  I'll have to fix that.  I'm also planning on match-porting the TGV housing to the heads.  Also, I'll be doing a TGV delete mod.  Lastly, I plan to open up the combustion chamber area just a bit from the 2.0 bore to the 2.5l bore.  To do this I'll have to use the old head gasket as a template.

I'm excited.

The Prodrive wheels that were on the car I've sold.  I wasn't too fond of them anyway.  The replacement wheels are a tad bigger and wider......and gold!   Rota G-Force in 18x9 et35.  For tires they'll be 245/40r18!!!

This thing is gonna look sick.
