Re: Mountain Bike discussion time.

What would be a good bike for someone getting into the sport (me) who's 6'1''.  I would ride on trails and the roads to get to the trails?

I know that's a little vague but i need to start somewhere.

The one I ended up with would probably fit the bill for you.  You might need a larger size (or not).

Ok, they said $300 was ok.

One question, can anyone decipher what size frame this is? Anything above medium is ok, i'm not picky, but if it's like XS or something, I'm out.

24" TT could mean either a M, L or XL.

Klein Attitude Geo
http://bikefactory.com/images/library/features/klein_attgeo_07_f.gif

But looking at the frame and how the TT slopes, I'm going to say size Medium since he said about 18" from center to binder (which I think he meant seat post QR clamp).

Here's an XL Klein Attitude Comp.

And a Large frame.

18 is a "medium" a 24 inch top tube is long for a an 18 or medium and he has a very long stem on it, but the seat is rather low.  I would ride it and see how it feels, then offer him $250 cash on the spot.  smile

Re: Mountain Bike discussion time.

Well, I was supposed to get it tomorrow for $300, they just emailed me and said "I have received a couple of contacts about the bike that have indicated they would pay the asking $400. Would you consider the same?"

Is this bike worth $400?

I think I'll write back and just say let 'em take it.

Re: Mountain Bike discussion time.

Looks a little beat and it is a bit older, I wouldn't pay $400.

Yeah, I think I will look for another bike.

I was excited to get back into a Klein. Oh well.

If anyone sees any other decent XC hardtails on Chicago craigslist, let me know please!

Size large.

Re: Mountain Bike discussion time.

This guy told me he is re-listing this tomorrow for $800...

http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/bik/2308754672.html

I am going to try and lowball him for $500. It's worth that, right?

I told him to send me some bigger pics.

The ad:  (Doesn't say what year the frame is...)

I am unfortunately selling my mountain bike. Need to thin out the herd. It is a very good bike with a lot of top of the line parts. The bike has been used and it does have a few scratches on it. It has not been on trails for over two years. I have recently just used it to ride to the gym which why it has regular pedals, I do have clip in pedals for it. The bike is extremely lite. I am asking 1100 for it but I will take reasonable offers please note, these are extremely good parts. I am 6'0" and the bike fits me perfectly.

Frame: Kona Kula
Shifters / Gears / Cranks: Shimano XTR
Brakes: Avid Front Disc/ Back brake pads
Head Set: King
Seat /tube: Thompson Carbon
Front Fork: Marzocchi Bomber (air shocks)
Handle Bars: Easton Monkey Lite
Hubs/spokes: Onyx DTS
Tires: Hutchinson Mosquito 26 x 2.30
Stem: Titeo

There's a sucker born every minute, I guess. That's a 2000 Kona Kula, and looking at the Marzocchi Bomber fork he's running, the geometry's looking pretty bad. Bike retailed for $1699 eleven years ago, relisting for $800, lol.
