It just goes from the shock tower to brake master? (just guessing here).
Yes sir. It has three bolts securing it to the shock tower, and one large set screw you tighten down against the MC. The idea is to stop the firewall from flexing and hold the MC in place under heavy braking.

Hey Zach,
I just looked at my MC. It does not have that end bolt like yours does. Is it just a Linear thing you think?

That is a set screw, and it comes with the MC brace. The end of the MC is a flat surface, you tighten that set screw down until it touches the face, then tighten another half to one full turn. It then locks in place with the included nut.
I must say, it is a marked improvement under hard braking. My pedal used to slowly squish further and further to the floor. Now, it firmly stops after depressing it only and inch or two. You don't really notice it until you really stomp on the brakes, but it is a big improvement. I feel much more confident my 92x can stop in a short distance now.

Well, I'm no longer lifted. I installed ProDrive Blues yesterday after work, and pulled the lift kit.

And where are the photos sir?
Thanks for your explanation on the MC attachement, makes sense now. Btw, you should see my car right now... Sooooo dirty. It was covered in dust from parking next to the "road", and then the bugs on the drive back to MI were just insane. At the end of the drive I had a hard time seeing out of my windshield. Good times though.

I'm hoping I can find some Prodrive blues when I'm ready.......

Mine was super dirty after leaving the fair grounds too. COATED in dust.

Some photos I took today.
I'm no photographer, which you guys should know by now. I used my old glove-box camera; Kodak Z710, 7.1mp AF. I didn't edit any of these pictures at all.
The car is now on Prodrive Blues with 3/8" saggy butt spacers in the rear. I'm kind of rocking a forward rake now, but I dig it.

Nice! Some Aero 17's and ummm...
Looks good.

I agree. I need new wheels and rubber. I have a friend who's kind of a wheel whore who also has a 5x100 car. I'm just waiting for him to get tired of a nice set.

I know you guys love my install walk throughs, so here's one for my new fender braces.
Here's what you need....
BRACES!
There are no existing braces or bolts on the Linear, so you need to drop some change for hardware too. Go for stainless bolts/washers and the bitches will be all over you. I cleaned out my local Lowe's store.

Jack up your whip and take all of this shit apart:

Scoop all of the garbage out of here while you're at it:
Look up in the fender and find the two front bolt holes. These are a tight squeeze. Double jointed arms and a gear driven wrench are invaluable here. I needed a 17mm wrench in my case.
Find the two rear bolt holes. These had black tape circles over them. Peal that shit off and you're G2G:
Grab your hardware and bolt your brace in. Unhinge your shoulder for bonus access to the forward bolts. The rear bolts are cake, and one is accessible from the door. I made this project my bitch.

I haven't test driven it yet because it was hot and I decided to have a beer and relax in the A/C for a spell.
Stay tuned.

How did those fender braces affect the ride?

Not much effect on the ride really. I didn't even notice any increased NVH. The improvement is in the corners. While following a curve in the road, I used to have to constantly correct the steering wheel. Now, I can just hold the wheel steady through the duration of the curve. The steering is much more responsive.
This improvement is extremely noticeable on the Linear because there are no existing fender braces. I believe the Aero comes equipped with the stamped steel braces. Someone will correct me if I am wrong here.

Cars looking good man. Been a while since I've been on. Decided to go back to low? haha Oh and I have the same problem with the rusty seat brackets, I dono what the deal with that is or how they would even get rusted??

Thanks dude. Yeah, back to low, but not as low as before. This is a much more acceptable ride height.

Great car!
I haven't posted my "I'm new here" thread yet, but I am interested in lifting my 2.5i. Here in Erie, PA we can get 12-18 inches of snow an afternoon under the right conditions and I want some more clearance.
Forgive me if I missed the post, but what were your reasons for removing it?

Exactly that. I used TiC braces on mine, and was very happy with the results.
The Aero has some, but they're not as stiff aas these (or the TiC). The upgrade probably won't be as noticeable, but I'm not sure. I *am* sure that if you're got a Linear and enjoy driving with a little enthusiasm, the braces are a must-have item.

My reasons for removing were mainly just looks. Even though I liked the monster truck look, I found that the 9-2x styling lends itself better to a subtle drop in ride height. Plus I wasn't getting the full return on my lift, as I never take the car off road.

Thanks!
Just wanted to make sure that you had no technical issues with it. I completely agree the car looks better stock or slightly lower, but I need function more than form for right now. Have you sold the lift spacers yet?
Great new purchase in that Volvo BTW!
Offline
No technical difficulties will arise for lifts of 1". You need to start swapping in rear suspension components from an Outback if you go higher than that. Lifting the car also produces positive camber, which requires an alignment to correct.
The lift spacers have been sold.
Both of the Volvos I posted on this forum have been sold.

Thanks again. I need to realize the threads are older than my visiting here!
One last question, any rubbing issues with the 215/65/16 tires? I found a few people here and on the Subie sites have run 205/65/16 but there are not that many choices in that size.

The fronts only rubbed at full-lock, and you need to trim the side skirts to clear the rears. Other than that, no problems at all. I will say that the Geolandars weren't the greatest on the highway.
