I need suggestions for a job for 3 weeks...

In December. When I return home from school. Preferably cash only. Any ideas? I'm not looking for people to talk to, I just want ideas on what kind of employment I could find that meets my criteria. Thus far my buddies have offered me a side gig doing some odd jobs at his bakery, a bartending job (weekends only), and a snow plowing job. I had a job as a paramedic but my certification recently expired.

I absolutely HATE sitting at home doing nothing on break from school. Working keeps me busy, sane, and gives me beer money.

TIA for more suggestions!

Landscaping?  Although that's more of a summer thing.  Snow removal is a good one depending on where you live.

arrow-up I live in NY about 30 minutes north of NYC. I'm thinking the snow removal job will keep me busy for a while.

December; don't a lot of retail stores pick up extra help over the holidays?  It would probably not be cash only, but you never know if a smaller store that you may have a relationship with (for example, a sporting goods store you've bought from frequently?) might work with you.

My buddy who's here from Honduras for a few months is doing pizza delivery.  Not very glamorous, but he makes good tips (sometimes).

December is one of the least snowy months of winter, at least all the way up until the end of the month. I wouldn't rely on a snow plowing job too much...

The call center doesn't allow remote work?

Re: I need suggestions for a job for 3 weeks...

Fuck the jorb, go on CL in one of the ski towns out west, set up a 3 month deal with one of the local ski bums that has a room/basement/other open, buy a season pass and eat peanut butter and jelly for the next three months.  I don't know how good Tremblant or similar could be...that way it's driveable for you.  Just put on your new MDRs and say fuck it.

Opportunities to work will always be around.  You've got 3 months of your youth to spend doing something fantastic.

Wait, I guess this is my plan.  If skiing/boarding ain't your thing then I guess the bakery job might work.   I've done that before.  Lots of free pasteries and the mexicans you work with will make great break food.

If you are a skier/snowboarder snow removal is not a good idea. You work during the best skiing!

Bartender sounds pretty good short term. Could be fun and you meet people. Of course the fun factor depends where you are bartending. Chili's...no. A cool nightclub in town...yes.

Valet! You can usually work on your schedule, and you get paid fairly well for the amount of work you do. If you were from the philly area, I could almost guarantee you work.

I worked as a maintenance man (janitor) at a self-storage center for a few months.  It was awesome.  Pay was shit ($11/hr), but I got drive around the property in a golf car all day with my iPod in, minding my own, having almost 0 human interaction.  Fixing broken doors, cleaning units, picking up screws and nails, killing bugs/snakes/mice, landscaping, etc.  Added bonus was that people would regularly clean out their units and just give away awesome junk. up

Re: I need suggestions for a job for 3 weeks...

Sell drugs. Or join a call center.  neutral

Mail order call centers and mail delivery services ramp up during December. Big Time. I know this because my hometown is the international headquarters for one of the largest mail order cheese and niceties companies: The Swiss Colony. They hire some 2000 people for 6 weeks during the holidays.

And how much money do you have now?

If it were me, and I was in a financially reasonable position, I would do as others have said and just ski bum it up, or chill.   cool

maybe i'm getting old, but $11/hr doesn't sound bad for that kind of mindless work.
def don't depend on snow plowing that time of year. i think the valet idea sounds best.
a lot of businesses use college kids as employees, who go home for winter break. start calling around to places to find out if they need people to fill in over winter break.

Re: I need suggestions for a job for 3 weeks...

Lots of good advice ITT.

The answer some of the previous questions, the job is less about money and more about getting me out of the house doing something other than sitting around and playing video games. Again, I HATE being idle and even during my short breaks from school I would pick up 80+ hours at my job just to keep myself occupied. The bartending job is at a local pub which gets quite a bit of traffic so it's definitely the best job in terms of fun. I will definitely check out valet or other kinds of mindless work.

Even though the money isn't really an issue as I have quite a bit saved up, it'll suck going from my $34/hr medic job I had before to whatever it is now. NBD, but just a little  sadbanana.

So make yourself not play vids and veg out.  up cool

That's something you have total control over. Sounds, to me, like you should build huge snow forts and make new recipes for hot chocolate. Just do something.  smile

Re: I need suggestions for a job for 3 weeks...

Personally I would buy a student pass to the local ski resort and ski everyday Mon-Fri. Then bartend Fri. and Sat. nights. Sunday do whatever.

Someday you probably won't be able to do things like that for 3 straight weeks.

Truth.

Is there really nothing that you find personally interesting?  Like building something?  Or learning a new skill?

If you don't need the money, I would think it would be better to spend the time doing something you want to do, rather than just finding someone to tell you how to fill your time.
