Welcome to Saab92x.com!
Hi everyone, |
Hey everyone,
I've spent the past few months going through this forum and been waiting around to find a 92x aero, manual available...after a couple of busts, I'm checking out this '05 Aero w/approx 89k for $11,750. Waiting for more pix, but the exterior and interior look clean enough, clean carfax, had a shortblock rebuild at 72k, and the seller is the original owner. Supposedly all maint is up to date and new front brakes...
The car is about a 3 hr drive away, I'm headed up Friday and gonna take it to the nearest Subaru dealership for an inspection, a couple of questions:
1. I've read up on what to look out for, anything else I should keep in mind at this mileage?
2. Its up for the 90k soon, and the seller says it will prob need a new battery soon (never been changed), and due for an oil change, and all the sites and comps show that the asking of $11.7 is too high, was thinking of initial offer of $10,250 (10 if the current tires are less than 50%), and pay no higher than $11 - is this fair?

Why the hell was the shortblock rebuilt at 72k? BEaring failure?
I would avoid unless it goes for 8k.. I picked up my 05' aero w/ 84k at the time for 6500$. Grossly overpriced.

Looks like the PO upgraded the boost, probably spun a bearing and needed to do a rebuild.
It's worth a test drive. I would ask the seller to meet me halfway though. Good luck.

Like spun bearings are news on these? 02 WRX's book out at $6500. Finding an 05 Linear for $6500 would be a steal. I'd be comfortable in the low to mid 10's for the car if it checked out, 11 might be a slight reach, but value is in perception. If its nice and you can't get lower and you are comfortable with it, pay 11.
BTW, we've had a few members get in the $11's on insurance payouts.

Exactly.
It looks clean enough. The leather is big plus in my opinion.

I wouldn't pay a penny over 11K for this car. And at that price it should be up to date on ALL of its maintenance, including the 90k service. Find out if they did a new timing belt and tensioners when they did the short block. if not its due for that soon too.

I don't know if it's lighting or something else...but what's the weird line across the door frame and floor in this picture?

I think that's just sunlight reflecting off of something.

Just got done talking with Jon also. Cylinder number 4 spun a bearing and the he just upgraded the turbo for the simple fact it was the exact same price.
Tires are 50%. He won't take what you would offer, he knows what he has and I offered more yesterday.
Seems like a fair deal, if it was Satin Grey it would already be mine. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Meh, the leather in these cars is nothing to write home about. It's nice for cleaning, but that's about it.

It's better than the cloth tough guy. I've written home about less, trust me.

Cloth > leather, especially in these cars. I drive 250 miles a day, and the leather reminds you what you are sitting on every single time.

Questions I'd ask the owner:
Which turbo is on the car?
What supporting mods were put on along with the turbo?
How was it tuned?

Who the hell sells a car that needs an oil change? One of the first things I do when getting ready to sell a car is a fresh oil change. It just shows you love the car and respect the new owner.

The seller is a car enthusiast . No supporting mods whatsoever for the turbo upgrade, he just figured he mine as well put the bigger one on for the same price. Very nice people, but I'm staying away.

Hey, I have a question for you. Why do all of your posts seem to be an offensive reply to another members post? Just curious...
Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?

Lol. I have strong opinions. My apologies if I offend you in any way. Not my intent.

Nope, no offense on my part. I'm just glad I'm not delusional!

I would seriously not buy this car....if he put a bigger turbo on it with no supporting mods when he replaced the engine, this engine is in questionable shape as well. Just FYI.

car is not worth it. i sold my 06 for a little more than that price and it had less miles and better "enthusiast" mods.

Off subject but do you have a stock radio, floor mats, or intake cowl you will sell? I just picked up a 05 auto. I'm in Longwood.

So did you end up looking at it?
