Yikes, not intended to head is that direction. I know my wife would laugh at what I wrote.

I did a poor job estimating, and under budgeted what was needed. So I had to ask her for financial help, and that was uncool, that's all.

Wife or ex-wife?  I never understood married couples who keep separate finances.

Ah, yea thought that too. My sister and her husband have seperate accounts - when my wife and I got married combining accounts was one of the first things we did. Makes things so much easier.

We've been together almost 10 years with no end in site. Separate accounts may not be for everyone but it works really well for us. We co-ordinate big purchases and split monthly bills, but when it comes to smaller items we both buy what we want, when we want. I don't have to worry if she wants to splurge at the outlets once in a while, and I get to buy whatever performance parts I want for the cars. I can't remember the last time we got into an argument over spending.

My wife and I don't have completely separate finances, but do keep separate accounts for fun purchases.  Hers are usually clothes.  Mine consist of dumb shit like buses and 10's of old Coleman stoves.  It really does help keep money tensions pretty mellow.

Re: The Uncool Shit Thread :unamused:

Splitting monthly payments sounds like a pain. I mean each of us are 'owners' of about half of our accounts but it all comes out of the same account. Small purchases aren't an issue w/ having the accounts together and for private purchases like gifts for each other we just use our individual credit cards.

Also... since my wife works in public television she makes quite a bit less than I do - which would be a recipe for disaster if we had separate accounts. I'm assuming both of you make about the same amount?

I bring in about twice my wife's income. But I put away ~$40k a year into our 401K retirement and volunteer for some of the larger purchases each year. She's not a very big shopper and tends to accumulate cash. She does give quite a bit to her bother and sister each year to help them with plane tickets or home repairs.

My wife and I have separate accounts right now, but we just got married 6 months ago and still are figuring out our finances.  So far though it has seemed to work well, with her paying some things and me paying others.  But we'll be combining accounts once I decide to not be lazy  biggrin

Re: The Uncool Shit Thread :unamused:

Came outside to a Stick stuck through my AC unit... All the way through.... Neighbor on that side is an old couple that has a guy come do their yard work. Maybe kids were visiting yesterday? I was out doing stuff from 10AM- 4PM. Who knows. I have been putting off getting a quote for a fence. Just contacted fence outlet. No fence between me and that neighbor but they have a hedge for privacy. I think it runs up to our property line. Going to measure in a little bit to see where it lands.
They always walk on our side of it to get around it to the back of their property to do work which is annoying because we have a window right there that goes into our living room. Done with that. Going to get a fence. If they need to go around they can walk the other side of their property or go through the hedge.

Probably after the fence it will be time for a new AC  and HVAC system. Trane?

I kind of think we are since the stick actually broke them, rather than move them out of the way. Maybe some of the other areas where they are not strait it would help but I feel like its a loosing battle. The next one I get will have some armor.
