WTB: STI Axle back

I'm looking for an STI axle back in the area. I love the new ride, but I want a little more of that Subaru rumble note. Not a ton, just a taste.

I'm in Portland, Maine. I'm willing to travel a bit, but not a tank of gas far...

Anyone got one laying around? Or know of one?

How much would shipping be from OK? Probably more than it's worth...

Probably, I just threw some numbers into UPS and came up with about $50

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

I've sent a few exhausts, it's going to be about $60 any way you cut it, if you pack it really well and efficiently. Best on the exhaust is UPS, btw.

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

Nobody has one to sell? I thought this would be a fairly easy thing to snag...

Would an '06 SPT exhaust fit? How about an '05 STI? Can I broaden the search by crossing years?

EDIT: An '04 perhaps? Just found a decent price for one of those...

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

I have mine all packed and boxed right now. Just sitting it in the garage. I can take it by ups tomorrow for a 100% accurate quote, but I am betting 50-60 to ship. What's your budget for this?

Anything 02-07 is going to fit. 04 Sti will work. Mines an 05. an 06 SPT will work. I highly recommend it, I just got one myself. A lot throatier than the STi though.

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

Thanks, phillipj. Good to know they'll all bolt on.

I just found a craigslist post for an '04 axle back about an hour away from me. I'm gonna try on that one first, since it should be pretty cheap/easy.

There's also a guy selling his cat back SPT exhaust in the area for $300. I don't know how much he'd want for just the axle back or if he'd even sell it separated. It's probably more than I want to spend though. I just want my engine to sound like it supposed to, no need to go spending a couple hundred dollars to do that.

If UPS is on your route for some errands or whatever, go ahead and get a quote if you want to, but know that $90 is my budget for this one. Thanks either way!

I can't believe you haven't found one yet!  No one in your area drives an STi?  I just pm'd a local STi owner on NASIOC and asked if he still had his stock a/b laying around, easy as that.  Good luck!

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

^^ mainelysubarus is not very active.  If you can contact SUBARUDE directly, he usually can get parts.  He has a section called SUBARUDE's parts.  Or something like that.  Just PM him.

Heard back from SUBARUDE. He currently has a wrx exhaust, and a Maddad Whisper axleback. The search continues.

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

Found this on craigslist, about 45 minutes drive from me.

http://maine.craigslist.org/pts/3056651122.html

Anyone heard the Apexi axleback? Is it as described in the ad? Because that's exactly what I'm looking for. Rumble at low rpm, no drone.

Also, should I be worried about the pinholes?

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

IIRC, the Apexi is loud.  Pinholes will probably make it louder, maybe some other odd sounds?

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

A guy on Nasioc will ship me a good condition STI Catback for $210 ($90 for shipping, $120 for exhaust). That's more than I thought this would cost me, but I haven't had any luck otherwise so far...

Thoughts?

I don't need a new midpipe but he doesn't want to separate them, so I'd get that too.

Re: WTB: STI Axle back

I still have mine for $90 + $60 shipping.

You'll want the midpipe too. The small STI resonator will make a difference versus your 06 resonator.

Your midpipe will be too short to use on the 2.5i.

Is it not going on the Aero in his signature?
