"Block Heater (n/a Impreza models)"

I didnt know we had that.  I assume it helps to bring the engine to opperating temps quicker, not a bad thing to have.

I don't think we have a block heater from the factory in the US.  Maybe standard in Canada.  Might it be part of the Cold Weather Package?

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

Trace, Fishnut from Montreal told me on  a forum that Canada has block heaters on all 92x's, its located in the recess of your front grill on the driver side. I looked and there it was on mine.I only have cold package-so I assume its on all U.S." colds."I bought mine in Endicott,N.Y.. Can other U.S. cold package owners check theirs and post a reply to this topic. The dealer did not mention anything about a block heater on my Aero

Interesting!  Cold package may just add more weight than I thought if that's the case.

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

I'll check for the block warmer. I have the cold package too and it looks like I have the battery warmer as well. It kind of surprises me, wasn't listed that it was in the cold pkg or as far as I know. I saw the battery warmer on a Subaru website and it looks like what I have.

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

Perhaps part of a "freakin' cold package?"  I checked out my grill, no block heater but I found what appeared to some kind of LED mounted sideways in some kind of fancy looking housing.  It's in the lower housing, facing to the right.  Anyone know what this could be for?

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

I was at a Subaru meet earlier today and we compared engine compartments.  There are actually a few minor differences in the engine area.  Our battery is mounted longitudinally and at an angle, for example.  Some fluid bottles are in different locations as well:

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

Those pictures compare the 2004 WRX with the 2005 9-2X.  I imaging a 2005 WRX would be the same under the hood as ours.  Not counting cosmetic stuff, the 2005 WRX has the changes that our cars have.

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

One thing I can't seem to find any information on is the paint quality.  The Imprezas (probably Subarus in general) are notorious for thin paint that chips easily.  I've had Stongards put on my current and previous WRX's, but am not sure that I really want to spend the money this time.  Does the 9-2X have a better paint job, or should I plan on finding a way to get Stongard again?

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

Since its painted at the same factory, which means the same methods; there is no reason to think that its any better.

It does have far less orange peel than quite a few of my previous new cars however.

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

Checked the grill again for engine block heater plug - still not there.

I checked out both the upper and lower grill areas - no plug.  The thing in the middle that looks like an LED at the end is the temperature sensor for the out.temp gauge.  TougeMaster, I think you might be mistaking the battery insulator for a warmer.  I have a Jeep (and the 92x) and they both have an insulator around the battery to protect it somewhat from engine heat.

It's Subaru paint. So if you don't want the chips, clear bra the front. And the paint has the same level of orange peel as any Subaru I've known.

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

ScoobyAerodude,

6 Disc In-dash CD Changer optional on Linear (n/a on Impreza Outback Sport)

THIS IS NOT QUITE CORRECT.  My wife DOES have the 2005 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Wagon SE.

It's the SE (Special Edition) that gets you the following:

Rear Spoiler, Armrest extension
260 Watt audio System w/6-Disc CD, Subwoofer and 6 upgraded speakers
Autodimming mirror/compass

SO the Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Wagon CAN COME with the 6-disc changer.  You just need the Special edition package that lists for $1500, but on the wifes car, they discounted that by $1000 ON THE STICKER, so the actual price was $500!

Hope that helps...

Also, in another thread about DRL's apparently there is a difference between the Aero and the Subaru Sport Wagon.  On my wifes car, you flip the parking light switch to get the DRL's.  Apparently this is not true on a Aero with HID's.  Go figure.  At least that's what Parker1974 replied in that thread to my posting that Subies do use that switch to turn DRL's on and off.

Re: Comprehensive list of differences between 92X and WRX/Impreza

Not sure this is important or not, but i have found some things that wont transfer from my 03 wrx to my 05 92x and viceversa.

The exhaust was actually shorter on my 92x and also the armrest extension is differnt, the clip is in the middle on the 03wrx its on the driver side in the saab.  People should be aware that although not much mecanical changed, there are quite a few differences between the 02-03 wrx and the 04-05 wrx (therefore the 05 saab 92x).

I'm looking at getting a custom underseat subwoofer box - there's a fellow on nasioc that sells a nice (if expensive) unit for the WRX passenger seat.

Can anybody tell me if the underseat area is the same between our cars and the wrx? Any rail/frame/seat differences underneath?

If nobody is sure, I'll swing by the Subaru dealer and take a peek. Thanks!

Charlie,

I don't think many users look at this thread (just new guys). That could be why you have got no replies.

I don't know the answer to your question but suggest you move it to Modification - Audio, you might get more replies.

Also, do a search and you might find some usefull info... here is what I found looking quick...

http://saab92x.com/viewtopic.php?id=2670

There are more out there with subwoofer or seat I'm sure but maybe you can find your answer in those or ask the guys who have done the installation.....
