Fun NC Roads?

I'm in Charlotte, and I'd love to find some fun/twisty/dirt/gravel roads in NC or SC to open the Aero up a bit. HWY 80 from Marion to the Parkway is a lot of fun, and I took the long way home from Charlottesville, VA yesterday to explore HWY 60 across the mountain. Loads of good times, but I need more. Haha. Any suggestions? Favorite routes? Etc?

Re: Fun NC Roads?

US 129 from Robbinsville to the Tennessee Border, or better known at the Tail of the Dragon
US 64 from Franklin NC to Brevard
NC 215 From Canton NC to US 64 in Rosman
US 276 from Waynesville to Brevard (are you seeing a theme here)
NC 209 from Waynesville to Hot Springs

These are just a few of the jewels in the mountains of Western North Carolina.

Message me, I have a Linear and live in Waynesville.  It would be fun to play on some roads!

Re: Fun NC Roads?

I will say that I don't know most of those roads, but Tail of the Dragon, from what I've seen on Youtube, looks awesome.

Just a cam and a tune.

Re: Fun NC Roads?

The Dragon itself as a road is fun, but it has become famous, so there are a lot of cops and slow lumbering Harley's.

Nice! I'll definitely let you know when I have some time to get away. Would love to check some of these out with fellow Saabarus.

With the Dragon, it all depends on what day of the week, or sometimes just what time of the day you go.  I've been countless times, it's great.

Re: Fun NC Roads?

There are many great roads in the mountains near Marion. I like hwy 181 from Morganton to Pineola. Hwy 221 from Linville to Blowing Rock and Shulls Mill Rd just off 221 near Blowing Rock and Hwy 194 -from Banner Elk to Valle Crucis.

Re: Fun NC Roads?

Honeycutt Rd in Raleigh used to be a blast. Aside from the deer. Now there is lots of development there.

Down toward the beach, there are countless miles of country roads with insane curves. All flat as a pancake. Before I had a family, I spent many nights challenging the laws of physics and common sense out on Holly Shelter Rd.

Best ticket I ever got was in Raleigh,  2 weeks before they opened the 540 outer loop.

I thought it would be a good idea to drive around the cones, and head a few miles into the darkness/turn back and let my 85 Bimmer sing the 6000rpm song for a few minutes.  Unfortunately,  a Wake Co. Sheriff was keen to my idea, and cut my little party short.

For about 20 min, though, I was on my own episode of Top Gear.

Re: Fun NC Roads?

You can see if you can get some roads from here. I use the GA version to find roads for my motorcycle. Plenty are car worthy if they are forest service roads.
