Re: Any F1 fans here... New regs make this an interesting year...

At least the season was interesting for the first 8 races.

Now it's clear that Nico Rosberg Will Be the 2014 F1 Champion according to the F1 commentators.

Even if Lewis Hamilton wins all the remaining races, Nico will still be the 2014 Champion by just being in 2nd or 3rd.

Only if Rosberg has a couple DNF's, will Lewis have a chance.

Mercedes are bias towards Rosberg, the disparity in the pits is a joke.

Hamilton overshot his mark on the first stop. He even mentioned working on pit positioning during the podium interview.

Amazing, Pastor Maldonado was able to continue despite his car going airborne.

Possible (depending on testing) new 18" wheels for F1 cars.

Re: Any F1 fans here... New regs make this an interesting year...

I know it's just because I'm used  to seeing the tiny rims and marshmallow tires on F1 cars, but damn, I do not like the aesthetics of that new wheel.

That said, the suspension changes that such a dramatically smaller sidewall will require will be interesting to see.

Re: Any F1 fans here... New regs make this an interesting year...

It won't just be suspension, it will be brakes (even if they keep the dinky brakes they have now,) revised aerodynamics, different tire management (since they won't get heated as much by the brakes they will need to start at higher pressures.)  And Pirelli has said that if they go to a larger diameter wheel they would want to go larger than 18", probably 21".  Personally I think they should make the change and force F1 to start developing suspensions again.

Re: Any F1 fans here... New regs make this an interesting year...

arrow-up It'd be a great way to slow the cars down.  One of the tire manufacturers a while back suggested that if they wanted to slow F1 down go to extremely low profile tires.  With little sidewall the tires could generate enough force to rip the tire seat off the rim.  Think of the tire management issues they would have with that.

Re: Any F1 fans here... New regs make this an interesting year...

Lewis Hamilton is one of the most unlucky driver's this year.  This time an engine fire.  Hamilton cannot get a break this season.  I feel for him, this season absolutely sucks for his car's reliability.

Rosberg is so lucky to have only 1 DNF.  And because of this latest Hamilton car failure, Rosberg is assured of the 2014 F1 Driver's Championship.

So sad, would be great to see Hamilton and Rosberg racing side by side.  If Hamilton had a reliable car, he would be way ahead in the Driver's Championship.

Re: Any F1 fans here... New regs make this an interesting year...

Spa, second lap Rosberg clips Hamilton's rear wheel taking him out the points.  And he doesn't get a penalty for it.

At least the fans agreed too, as they booed Rosberg on the podium.  IMO, Rosberg deserved it.

It's sad when a skilled driver (Rosberg) cannot pull in safely behind his teammate.

Rosberg is the luckiest driver in F1 this year.  Hamilton is the most unlucky driver this year (the DNF's, brake failure, engine fire, and getting clipped by his teammate).

Curious to see what happens with the team and the drivers now.  Hamilton is passed the breaking point with Rosberg and I cannot blame him.

UPDATE:

Rosberg admitted that he was not going to back down from his line to prove a point.  The team is upset.  You don't make a hard pass on your teammate just 2 laps into the race and ruin the 1-2 finish.

Jules Bianchi critical after brain surgery.  He spun and hit recovery equipment removing Adrian Sutil's car that spun the previous lap.

Hoping the best for Jules. In less somber news, Vettel to Ferrari next season, Kvyat up to RBR, and Alonso in limbo.

Damn, Bianchi's accident occurred during a yellow? (Haven't watched yet) They should've Red Flagged it if it was that slick.  Get well soon Jules, ( hoping his injuries aren't like Schuey's ).

Re: Any F1 fans here... New regs make this an interesting year...

Yeah it was a waving yellow, Sutil had gone off at the same location at the previous lap, there were waving yellows.  FIA didn't broadcast any video, but apparently Bianchi hit the tractor moving Sutil's car.  Conditions were deteriorating rapidly at the time, but the guys on intermediates were still on pace, not clear if the conditions caused or contributed to Bianchi going off.

Hell of a drive by the Mercedes boys, though.

Several of the drivers said the lighting was a factor.  They said it was so dark they couldn't tell standing water from wet road.
