MOPAR OR NO CAR! -ikbrown's 68 Charger

My charger has made a few cameos in my Saabaru Post My Ride thread but I've yet to post any more detailed shots of what I've done to the Charger so I thought I'd create a thread for her. My padre and I have been steadily doing projects to her since we got her back in 2005 (Oh gosh that was almost 10 years ago. ha). We picked it up as a project car that we could work on together and it definitely served that purpose well as we bought it sight unseen from ebaymotors (back when ebaymotors was new and the cool thing to do!) and it had quite a bit more rust than we had anticipated or that the seller had let on  banghead. Most of the work that I have done on the car my dad and I did back when I was in high school so you'll have to excuse the potato camera pictures and my super long high school hair. haha.

Some of the restorations and improvements we've done so far:

Engine/exhaust
- rebuilt the stock 383 big block motor
- high-lift / longer duration cam
- increased carburetion (740cfm) Eldebrock carburetor
- MSD electronic ignition
- New starter
- Hooker headers
- custom 3" exhaust w/ dual Flowmaster mufflers
- new gas tank & fuel lines
- new wiring harnesses

Suspension/brakes
- replaced the front drum brakes w/ discs so it can actually stop
- upgraded front sway bar, torsion bars, and restored front suspension
- replaced the rear leaf springs and shocks

Interior
- re-upholstered the front seats
- new interior carpet
- restored the dash trim and gauge cluster
- AutoMeter tach since my Charger came w/ the clock instead of the tach in the gauge cluster  unamused

Bodywork (or more accurately, rustwork)
- replaced driver side floor pan and both trunk pans (rust...  facepalm)
- removed the 'rust-preventing' rubber coating from the undercarriage and removed rust
- sand-blasted and painted the engine bay while engine was out

Lots done to it so far but our biggest headache of all, the body work, is still ahead of us. For now, we've restored enough that the car is as safe and dependable as it can be for an almost 50 year old car, and we've added some HP and fun-to-drive factor w/ the engine and suspension upgrades, although it still just drives like a fast boat.

First picture of her, upon delivery!

Sadly this is the only after shot I could find which is really more of a 'during' cuz this was before we received the dash & gauge cluster back from being restored. I'll get some better pics soon. It does show the new steering wheel and re-upholstered seats though!

Ha, I had someone recently tell me that as well, they said the wheels were very dated and 90s. They came w/ the car as you can see and I haven't put too much thought into replacing them since I didn't really mind them.

That being said I definitely have an idea of what I'd like to put under those wheel wells, and as you can tell, even w/o tubbing there is PLENTY of room for more wheel and tire. She's only rocking 235 width tires right now  facepalm

Thanks guys! I still need to get an exhaust video made for Stella so while I'm at it maybe I'll shoot some video of the Charger as well.

You can always get the larger era style wheels. These would look great

The wheels on it aren't OEM or era-wheels  facepalm Maybe era to the 90s.
I have no intentions of going to Foose 22's, nor did I say that... I would like to get a good looking 5-spoke mag or other wheel in the style of something that would have been offered in the aftermarket at the time. For example, there are new wheels out that I've seen on a couple cars that are a sort of take on the R/T OEM wheels but are offered in fatter widths and such. I dont more wheel inches vertically, just horizontally. ha. She needs more meat in the rear!

Durp.

Cheesy early 90's aftermarket like you would find on an S-10 is not a wheel from the era.   alot

There is a nice selection of 60's muscle car wheels made in slightly updated sizing of 17-18" that allow for more modern tire sizes like the example already posted.
