Replacement key/keyfob for 06 aero

I have an 06 aero, I am looking to get an extra key and key fob since I only have one.

after searching I dont understand if the 06 aero can use the legacy fob since it seems the 92x has a immobilizer.  There also seems to be the STI Titanium, this key http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-2009-Subar … mp;vxp=mtr

anyone with an 06 have any experience with any of these. The subaru tear drop remote seems pretty cut and dry for a replacement as well

Re: Replacement key/keyfob for 06 aero

I actually just went though this (still am, kinda).

A Legacy fob will indeed work, but you will need to have an immobilizer chip in it. Ideally, you would cut the immobilizer out of your valet key and transfer it into your new Legacy flip key. It sounds like that isn't an option for you, though. So, you'll need to pay for a new one. Key shops will charge in the ballpark of $75 to duplicate your current one.

Re: Replacement key/keyfob for 06 aero

The key fob comes with a code number.  If you have that number you can reprogram a teardrop remote to any car.  I don't know if the Legacy would work if you had the code but I would assume it would since the reprogramming instruction are exactly the same.  The immobilizer is in the key not the remote but the remote has it's own chip security.  To reprogram that you need the code for your specific car that only a service manager of a Saab dealer can get for you and Subaru service managers told me they couldn't get it for a Saab.  Fort Knox is easier to crack than an 06 Saab.

Re: Replacement key/keyfob for 06 aero

If you are lucky the original owner kept the small zip lock bags with the fob number in with the manuals.  If you have that number it is very easy for a Saab or Subaru dealer to reprogram and I think recently there was a post on how to do it.  If you don't have the number it can't be coded to the car is my understanding.  You can get a new teardrop with the number that can be programed.  The Saab fob is a pricy item but nothing compared to the key.

If you are still dealing with a key issue you can either go to a Saab dealer for them to get the original car code or you can make more keys and attach the key you have with the immobilizer near the ignition and use any properly cut key but it defeats the security system.  If you have the car code on the little blue metal tag any Subaru or Saab dealer can program the keys to the care but all keys must be present or the recoding will disable any other keys; not important in your case.

Sorry but I can't help you with other than original keys as I never went that route.

Fob is super easy to do.  Search the dozen other posts about it.  Also, FOB is not the key, FOB is the "remote" just so we are clear.

Hi has an 06 Aero.  You have to enter the 8 digit transmitter code unique to each fob.  For an 06 Aero if you don't have the code all you have and handy thing to hold you keys.

Check your 06 owner's manual page 2-10 for programming instructions for a new key fob.  If the battery goes dead you have to reprogram and you need the transmitter's code.  It sucks but I haven't found a work around.  A new saab transmitter (fob) is about $130 with the number on the bag it comes in.  Subaru probably has a fob that will work but I don't imagine they are any cheaper.

What I meant by saying 'wat' was that your post was totally incoherent.

If you need a new fob, you can get them off of ebay pretty cheaply (Impreza/Legacy remotes work as well). The transmitter code is on a sticker on the board inside of the fob. So if you don't have the bag it comes in from the dealer, that's not an issue. Just open the fob up and look at the sticker.

Re: Replacement key/keyfob for 06 aero

Sorry, I was typing in the dark on my phone.  That's great that the code is in the fob; the Saab dealer didn't know that either!

Re: Replacement key/keyfob for 06 aero

Make sure you are turning the key in the ignition fully to the on position (not past on to start, but fully to on) and fully back again when getting into programming mode. You have to go fast, but also be precise.

Re: Replacement key/keyfob for 06 aero

Did this last weekend.
Observations:  after the 10 turns, leave it in off.
My car gave no indication it was in programming mode except that after opening and closing the drivers door the second time, pressing the lock button did not lock the door.  I finished the process with no signals or flashing lights or anything.   It worked for two new two button teardrop fobs.
