Not-so-great review on 2006 Aero

Somebody sent me a link to this site.  I don't know how credible they are.  It seems like there's a lot of negative stuff there, bordering on rants.  So this probably needs to be taken with a  good dose of Sodium Chloride...

Re: Not-so-great review on 2006 Aero

I read that yesterday... down

I've read alot of reviews like this.  They actually love everything about the car - improved suspension, sound deadening,  star styling star, steering adjustments, interior upgrade - and of course the inherent qualities of the WRX - handling, power, fun-factor.  Did I mention handling?  But their beef always comes when they compare the price tag to the WRX.  They always say $5K is not worth it for an Aero trimmed WRX.  Hmm... I know I didn't pay $30K for my 9-2sexy sly

good point.  their biggest gripe is usually the one that doesn't even really exist for most of us; price.

Re: Not-so-great review on 2006 Aero

Hm, they mostly gave it a bad review for the interrior.  He did nail the seats that stain on the interrior but otherwise I will dissagree his opinion of the rest of the inside.   I will say that the sight seems a little more critical than others and filled with more of his "personal" opinions rather than a general view, but that is just my thought.  It seems like this guy was more PO'd at GM than saab. (i.e. "GM's goofy attempt"... etc) banghead    Performance wise they did a pretty nice review though, pointing out the zippyness of the vehicle.  Otherwise a kinda sucky review.

Cheers
Ken

^^  Once again, I can't understand what everyones doing to their leather to cause this.  My old cloth seats would stain without anything even touching them.  These seats have lasted a year without a single mark on them.

For 28-30k, this car sucks.

For 19.6k, it rocks  roxor

I have a stain on my cloth seat, I think it's from my computer bag picking up some winter mess.
Oh well.

Try one of those orange oil cleaners.  That's what the dealer used during my 7500 mile service after they put about a foot-long grease stain on my drivers seat.  I didn't think it would come out but you can't even tell there was ever a stain there.

The 92X can't be faulted for what it is, only for what it attempts to be.

If you admit you've got a slightly nicer looking mid-lifecycle Subaru (and you paid a Subaru price), then you'll be happy. If you thought you were getting an all-new Saab, then you'll be disappointed.

This is insulting to those of us who bought it for the price, not for the "refinement".  wink

I can't believe the author called the ride "jarring". I would have described the ride as "squishy". It felt like my fiance's sunfire. I think I dumped hundreds into suspension work during the first week. . . the writer's a tool. Nobody buys the car because it's a Saab. . . It just isn't, and we know that--get over it.

Re: Not-so-great review on 2006 Aero

Everything this article says about the 9-2X is absolutely true when you take into consideration the target market for it. I feel sorry for anyone who actually paid sticker price for their Saabaru or bought it without the knowledge that it's a Subaru in Saab clothing, and this author is clearly writing to those people. For the community on this forum, reviews of this type tell us nothing we didn't know already; we're aware the ride isn't Saab-quality, we  know the interior won't be quirky or fancy in any way, and we've been aware of these things since before the day we rolled our 9-2Xs off the dealer lot. We love these cars because of what these authors can't write about: the fact that most of us paid less than $20k for them, and the fact that we view them in terms of their differences/improvements over the WRX, not in terms of how well they fit into the Saab family of cars.

Actually, yes I am buying it because it is a Saab!  I know it is a Subaru, but I drive a Subaru now and I like it.  The reason I like the Saab vs. Subaru is that I can get it for basically the same price (post discounts), but it looks a whole heck of a lot better.  The new Subaru styling is awful, I hate the new 'nose' on it.  The front end looks like a cranky Japanese businessman with a mouthful of wasabi while the Aero has the sleek beautiful lines of a Nordic model's cheekbones.  I realize it's superficial, but there ya go.  If the Subaru looked the same and was cheaper, I would buy it.  Plus, there is more cache (or is it cash) in the Saab name. When I tell people I'm getting a Saab they go, 'Whoah, cool!" (vs. oh, a Subaru...eh, that's nice).   roxor

And from what I can tell, it looks like High School girls (students at the school I teach at saw me driving it from a school event today and they yelled "nice car") like the cars. Of course, they might've liked a Subaru, too., or they may have been being sarcastic. what do I know?  biggrin

The girls at my high school seem to think the car isn't much until they get a ride or watch their boyfriends try and beat me in their honda's with fartcans. (it might sound like a muscle car, but it's still a ten year old accord)

Hmmm, maybe the girls at our school are smarter?  wink  j/k
