Re: Love for the Saabaru

Was just gonna post about Dunkin Donuts and how there aren't any in CA but a quick google search corrected me. I guess they'll be some opening up in California later this year... Maybe I'll see what the hype is all about after all.  lol

Dunkin Dounts wrote:

The first four traditional, stand-alone Dunkiní Donuts restaurants in California will be located in Whittier, Santa Monica, Modesto, Long Beach and Downey. Construction at all five locations will begin this summer, and we expect these new restaurants will all open to the public later in 2014.

Random ass location choices though. Modesto??

Re: Love for the Saabaru

Here in NW New Mexico, I think they give out Subaru Outbacks to everyone that moves out here, esp. white professionals (they are also apparently the official lesbian vehicle of choice per online postings). Being male and straight however, and not being part of the herd, I'm looking for something different. Subaru quality (esp. in winter driving) plus Saab unique looks....sold! Looking forward to grabbing one in the next week or two and joining a smaller, different herd.

It's a pretty cool herd to be a part of! Fun to be driving something so rare smile. You'll be part of an even smaller herd who have lifted their Saabarus for serious function>form.  embeer

I thought the official lesbain vehicle of choice was the Subaru Forester.  biggrin

Got a VERY enthusiastic, out-the-window thumbs up from some younger guy in a Mercedes C-class while in stop and go traffic on Friday. Not the usual clientele of people who wave or give thumbs up. Ha.  92x heart

Re: Love for the Saabaru

Any new 'love for the Saabaru stories' lately? I always like hearing who's noticing the Saabarus.

Got some love from a track-ready Miata the other day. He was in front of me commuting in the morning and when we went to get on the freeway he zoomed around 2 cars by using the carpool lane of the circle on-ramp. I accelerated up to him and gave him a thumbs up and he just gave me a nod but after passing him I slowed up and when he passed me, he gave me a big thumbs up and out the window dueces as he exit the freeway. Looks like he knew what the car was after I passed him. Musta been the saab92x.com sticker.  cool lol

Also broke some poor girl's neck who was in the passenger seat of a Mazda with her face glued to the window as they passed by me on the freeway. Presumably her boyfriend was asking her to find out what kind of car it was? Ha, girls don't normally give the car any looks. Made me lol a little

Re: Love for the Saabaru

I've had two notable:

1) I overheard two high school age students say "Damn, that is a dope saab, what is that???" I think they mainly were interested in the hood scoop and mud flaps. Hahaha, was pretty funny.

2) Some semi-homeless looking guy and his much better dressed friend came over. The scrappy looking guy starting literally freaking out (Which made me somewhat worried about his mental health) going .. YO MAN... WHAT... WTF IS THAT MAN. I LOVE SAABS AND I KNOW MY SAABS, WHAT IS THAT?? I calmly explained it to him and his friend tried to gently help him move on, but he kept asking me about it. It was very strange.

Not to mention there's nothing special about my car in terms of modifications, and its always dirty etc.

Oh some guy approached me smiling, all cool-like and just said... wow, look at that baby. How many miles? I told him 83k and his eyes lit up... oh just a baby, wow shes young.

This was also really strange. I've never really understood the extreme anthropomorphification of cars.

No one cares about my car in NC, the flat brimmed hat clad Subabros don't know what it is and give me weird looks if I wave. The only people who like it are the guys at the tuning shop I take it to.

I pretty much stopped waiving at Subarus since they usually don't even notice the car or don't care to notice. Meh.  unamused

Although, I did have a weird encounter a few weeks back. I had just pulled into a gas station and parked, I was waiting to meetup with a guy from NASIOC who was selling some springs relatively cheap. I see a nice CTS-V pull into the gas station and a well dressed gentlemen exits the car and pretty much bee-lines it over to my car. I'm sitting in the car thinking "is this the NASIOC guy?" as I see the guy whip out his phone and begin taking pictures. He pretty much does a full walk around of the car by the time I get out all while snapping pics and giving me the  up .

I asked him if he was the guy I was meeting and quickly realized he spoke very little English. He said his name was Tron, and that he had been photographing all his favorite cars during his trip to the U.S. He said that of all the cars my "Saab STi" (which is what my license plate says) was the coolest. I explain to him a little bit about the car and pop the hood, but I don't think he really understood what I was saying. In any event Tron was very polite and said that he would be putting the pics of my car up on his website (blog) and his brother was a huge Saab fan and would love the pictures.

Re: Love for the Saabaru

Right on, nice stories! It's always interesting when the non-subie crowd notices the Saabaru as well.

@jgreen - a) I learned a new word today, b) I am guilty of naming my cars. The Saabaru is Stella.

I also had another one from last weekend - I was in Lake Tahoe area for a wedding and there was a Subaru cruise around the lake going on one of the days I was there. I was hanging with my wife's family so I wasn't able to make it but as we were driving around the lake to the north shore to kayak, the cruise went by us going the opposite direction. Ha, I was smiling ear to ear giving/receiving tons o dueces out the window at everyone driving by. My mother-in-law called my wife to make sure that I wasn't going to turn around and join the cruise.  biggrin So tempted. haha.

Re: Love for the Saabaru

One of the coolest STI's I've ever seen on the road, a black lowered wagon with red emblems, mudflaps, and I think some sort of widebody kit (lowered) tried to get my attention really hard as he passed me, then slowed down. Once I finally saw him and gave him the peace sign he smiled huge and zoomed off, car was ridiculously loud.

A subaru tech writing something on papers looked up as I drove it into the indoors (the exhaust was louder once I got inside) and smiled when he saw the 92x, I'm sure he was expecting something else.

One guy who was working at my house (his gf/wife was his partner) asked me a bunch about it. He asked me if it was the Saab rally version, like the "WRX and evo" and I told him it was actually mechanically a WRX, his girlfriend was like I TOLD YOU IT WAS A WRX I KNEW IT!! That was one of the most fun ones.

Finally, just after I got the car and took it to the mechanic for a check up, he gave me the keys back and said something like, "I expect saab but then it has subaru engine, much much better I like very much"  cool

Ha, same. There's a couple younger guys that work at the car wash that I take my car to every now and again when I'm too busy to wash it myself and they always chat me up when I stop by. They even call 'Subaru' for when my car is done. hahaha.

Re: Love for the Saabaru

A couple weeks ago I was headed north, and made a pitstop at the New Hampshire Liquor store. As I crossed lanes to get off the highway, a Jeep let me in and proceeded to follow me into the lot. The dude, a UNH student, used to own a GTI and knew that I was behind the wheel of "one of those Saab WRX things."

He was jealous.

Can't say I blame him.

Re: Love for the Saabaru

About a month ago, I came across a Volvo V40 that was clearly modified and we began playing in traffic, exchanging the lead several times. We got on the beltway and he got on it and I was stuck in traffic. He held up a bit and I caught him about a mile or so later. When the exit for the highway appeared, he gave me a big thumbs up and his girlfriend was snapping shots of my car...

Today, the teenage carwash attendant at AutoBell certainly liked the Saabaru and said, 'That sure sounds and looks quick!' I made sure to verify his claim when I left the lot, redlining it through 3rd gear...  big_smile

5K in 3rd w/ the VF-48 (protuned) is where it gets  sadbanana O-H F-U-C-K scary. Pulls like a monster to 6.5k and to be honest I've been too scared to go any further on public roads (empty highway). I'm definitely close to hitting 100+ mph when hitting 4th gear after a hard 3rd gear pull.
