Re: 2015 Autocross Season

One of my neighbors who's really into rallyX/ AutoX and has a beater legacy with a WRX swap invited me to come out to an event. Any suggestions for a newb?

Listen and learn.  Ride along with whoever you can, pay close attention to their lines and style.  Walk the course many times to learn it well before driving it.  Bring sunscreen and a big hat.  Have fun.

Do any of you do the national events?  I've got an invite to go to the 6/26-28 Match Tour in Farmington, UT.  Considering it.

Re: 2015 Autocross Season

just saw toyota racing's new frs with a greddy turbo kit that is being tested (gtx2871) and supposedly puts down about 380hp... it's running the one lap this year and looks fantastic... even placed in the top ten in the wet skid pad...

Re: 2015 Autocross Season

Had a blast yesterday.  I have a lot to learn about driving this car, but it is so much more fun to drive than the 9-2x in stock form.

I will say though, for auto-x, that BRZ is so much fun.   driving

Your Cobra is ludicrous, we could hear that WOT pull from 1/2 mile away over an active autocross course.  biggrin

Re: 2015 Autocross Season

Our club hosts the local Porsche Club of America for a driving school/autocross every year.  The event was today and I was an "instructor", which was quite fun.  Tons of cars and drivers of highly varied ability.  One guy in a 993 with a monster spoiler and a stripped/caged interior that could back up the gaudy looks with driving (he showed up late to tech with 3 race wheels/tires on a roof rack and the 4th in the passenger seat).  A bunch of Caymans, base to GTS.  A couple 911 turbos including one driven by the granddaughter of a local billionaire.  She was timid at first but was driving the hell out of the car by days end.  I taught a guy all about understeer and oversteer in his 928, including how quickly oversteer can get you backwards smile

At the end of the day they allowed the volunteers to take some fun laps on the autocross course.  I had my street tires on the Miata and, in driving like I was on my autocross tires, executed perhaps the longest drift of my life.  Fun, but I headed home after that to bolt up the sticky tires for tomorrows autocross.

Re: 2015 Autocross Season

Im in the KYSCCA region our 3rd points event will be on the 28th of this month. We had our cob web shaker fun event a few months ago at the National Corvette Museum racing skid pad and will have 5 events later this year at that location again. Lots of fun racing and meeting a ton of people and just having fun.

up

I need to be a better driver.  I thoroughly shit the bed last weekend.  6 runs total, my first was my fastest.  Which is not OK.

Re: 2015 Autocross Season

I have a long way to go as a driver, the car is slow purely due to me. We get 5 runs where i am but we have 4 heats. We get a lot of people coming out lately so it drags the event out a long while. My last event i was still of the factory suspension with 174k of wear and Hankook RS3 V2's, this next event i will be corner balanced on a set of Feal 441's and Perrin Sway bars front and rear. Hoping for much better times as i get more experience. My last run at the last event was my best time, it was purely a screw everything run going flat out to see what would happen, the understeer was a pure nightmare.

Yes they are really cool people, two of the main supporters of the scca in our area. I occasionally set up stands at events and pick up the tents and information handouts from them

Re: 2015 Autocross Season

Went to my 6th and 7th events of the summer last weekend.  12/45 on Saturday, 16/56 Sunday in PAX.  Not quite as good in raw, but hey, it's a Miata, and I did beat a GTR raw on Saturday.  Ran the event Sunday, it went reasonably well, minor hiccups with noise levels and kart helmet regulations, but a solid first time as event master.  I do believe I'm starting to get better at driving.

Re: 2015 Autocross Season

Well racing season has ended here. It was fun this year and next year will be better im sure. Managed third in class off from first place by .3 seconds and came in the top 20 overall.

Re: 2015 Autocross Season

god i wish we did rallyx, there is talks of trying to get it here but we dont have a venue. the western region kyscca does have it though. Honestly i am very happy with my results considering i have not been corner balanced and have nowhere near enough negative camber to make full use of my grip in turns combine that with the fact i still need a dccd controller so my front diff is actually open still i think if i fix those 3 things i will do even better next season.
