Should I pull the trigger/Piston Slap?

So I've  got my eye on an 05 92x Aero. It has 96000 kms on it, manual trans.
I have a couple questions about it.

First off... piston slap. Are people getting it on the 05 Saabarus or what? I have an 07 2.5i Impreza that once at 100k kms got the worst piston slap. I really don't  want to get out of my impreza to get in to something that will end up the exact same... which is to mean a very horrid  sounding car that I can't  sell easily as the noises scare people.

My other question is pretty much purely opinion... Would you hop out of an 07 2.5i impreza with 106k kms to get in to an 05 92x aero with 96k kms? My insurance and car payment would be the same more of less.

Further to this should I sell the impreza or take it off the road and keep it as a winter  beater for the rough weather we get this way from dec to march/april.

I'm torn. I've always wanted  a saabaru but hate spending money. The guy only wants 10k for the 92x aero.

So... thoughts?

Piston slap is not a death sentence on a Subaru boxer motor, it is rather common. Piston slap goes quiet once a healthy motor gets to optimal operating temperature.

Re: Should I pull the trigger/Piston Slap?

facepalm

Keep the 07 and fix 'er up- or maintain it. 2.5i is a decent engine/ trans combo, you should get many miles on that after head gasket, WP, Tbelt, valve lash maintenance. You must first realize different engines will make different noise... What some people describe as piston slap at idle, others describe as normal running engine. What is the Subaru specialty experience level of the person looking at your car? What documentation do you have (mechanic's findings) to assume this to be the diagnosis? Do you know more about the car you have vs the one you want to buy(maint history and overall health)?
What recent service has been done to the car you're looking to buy that would bring the cost of ownership down in the first few years (Tires, brakes, clutch, Tbelt, struts, bushings, ps pump, lines, cv boots, etc...) Do you just want moar fast? Have you considered a second vehicle or a lease? Saabaru parts are really hard to find, and fender benders can result in a complete loss, due to fenders and bumpers being unavailable.

Paradox. Does. Not. Compute. Each and every car you look at is at least 10 years old. It's gonna need some new parts.

Or you could just let others do the research and make the decision for you.... embeer

This. Happens on every cold start up on my '05 where the ambient temperature is <40 F.

Same with mine, and I had no issue selling it in February in Chicago...

Re: Should I pull the trigger/Piston Slap?

Thanks for the replies!

Mostly I'd like to bump into the Saab to get the performance increase.

Unfortunately I didn't jump soon enough and it appears the car has been taken down. Shit sucks. I've been waiting ages to find a MT Aero with under 100k kms.

Maybe if I'm lucky I'll come across an 06 MT Aero
