Re: Automotive Ownership Bucket List

I have to keep the quantity of cars owned at a higher number than the years I've been driving.  My arbitrary metric.

Re: Automotive Ownership Bucket List

I really hope this Kickstarter gets met. I would love to own one of these. I know it is not automotive, but it is on my bucket list. Would be hard to beat in the $/Fun ratio. There is a large field next to my work, would be great for commuting in the summer.

Re: Automotive Ownership Bucket List

Yea, I pledged 55. I'll pledge more if it gets close, but I've been watching it for 8 days now, and it doesn't look like it will reach it's goal.

The 300 level is a great package if you live near Northern Italy.

Since the first picture link is bogus, I'll ask:  Why a '76 EMS?  Why not a '78 Turbo itself?
EDIT:  And now the picture appears.  You like the 2-door better than the 3-door.  Gotcha.

yep I like the 2-door, but would be perfectly happy with just starting with a 3-door '78 turbo.  I just learned to drive on pretty much that identical car that is pictured.  Same wheels, color, etc.  I was going to buy one on ebay about 10 years ago, but got outbid.  it was very close to mint condition and sold for $5200.  At the time i thought that was way too much money, but have regretted not going for it ever since.   unamused

That picture has been bugging me.  I think that is a 73-74 EMS.  The grille center is stainless, rather than the one-piece plastic grille.  Separately, that's a Euro version.  Note the headlights and turn signals.  I retrofitted those signal lenses to my 1972 99 LE that I converted to the B Engine and 75-80 transmission (chain primary drive instead of gears).  That car was a hoot, but I didn't have the knowledge then to get the D-Jetronic to work correctly with the super-hot cam I fitted.  My mechanical redline was past the end of the tachometer.

Back then, the 'E' meant something.  It was "Electronic Manual Sport" but in 1975 they went to Bosch K-Jetronic (mechanical CIS) so kept the EMS label but dropped the meaning.

Got the bug again and started looking for a 99 EMS or turbo about a year ago.  Have passed on a few in the past year but couldn't pass on this one.  Will post a new thread once it arrives in about 2 weeks.

Sweet.  Straight and quite clean.  The only thing that catches my attention as off is the bumper strips.  Pretty remarkable for a car of that era.

The bumpers are the aftermath of safety regulations in the US during that era. Mostly all European cars fell victim to the ugly "diving board" when being imported to America. I have a late 70s BMW that has the same issue. Gotta love all European cars from that era tho. Great looking car!

arrow-up I think that Lizzardo was noticing the missing chrome strips in the bumper. I think that they fractured at the ends and fell out of almost every 99/900 I ever saw.
