Oh man, I thought Gavin Mcginess was a real asshole. Completely unchecked privilege and myopic viewpoints. Couldn't tell if he was even genuine or just hamming it up.

Re: What Podcasts do you listen to?

Recently got into The Majority Report with Sam Seder. He used to host a liberal radio show with Janeane Garofalo on Air America before radio like... died. Smart dude, super funny.

Yes, they are bigger every year and those growth effects can be seen in what they cover. They have a lot more correspondents now and that waters down the brand somewhat but my favorites are still there:

Cenk Ugyur, Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola, Jimmy Dore, Jayar Jackson, and last but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, Ben Mankiewicz. Ben and Jimmy might be my top two.

...but I know what you're saying. Depending on which two (or three or four) are hosting, the conversation can get eye-rolling liberal, and it seems disingenuous like a left pissing contest.

Some casts I listen to when waiting for new drops by my favorites:

The Duncan Trussell Family Hour (Duncan is a big weirdo with a lot of experience in Religious philosophy and being a big funny weirdo)

The Drunken Taoist (Daniele Bolelli and his incredible Italian accent talk about philosophy, psychology, history, and everything else with smart co-host Rich Evirs)

The Monday Morning Podcast (Bill Burr rambles and rants about the past weeks events, fucks up reading sponsor ads, and answers fan letters)

The Jimmy Dore Show (Political comedy and analysis from Jimmy and a stable of guest hosts... very funny and smart, but hit and miss, and the canned laughter of hosts can be grating)

The Bryan Callen Show (Bryan is a great comedian and has really interesting guests call in, many academic authors, and his co-host Hunter Maats is kind of a genius)

KCRW's Left, Right, and Center (Political analysis from measured and reasonable representatives of both sides of the spectrum)

Best of the Left Podcast (Aggregate podcast with broad highlight sampling of the progressive podcast world from the past few days)

I really liked that at the start, then I caught up to (4months ago) then it drifted off.  I haven't listened to the pas 4-6 episodes. should I get back into it?

arrow-up Absolutely. They jump a bit between back and forth and the current state of Adnan's deal and it gets a bit confusing, but it's still worthwhile IMO.

I actually find myself becoming more and more disillusioned with the term "liberal" as time goes by. It seems like the left is becoming a completely distorted and absurd version of itself, which is also happening on the right (even though, IMO,  It's obviously nowhere near the same degree/level of stupidity/level of potential damage to the world).

Other wise we have almost identical listening habits. I occassionally download an episode of "All Songs Considered," or "All things Considered."

Once I started listening to the podcasts produced by NPR and Gimlet, I couldn't bear to listen to others. The production value that those to orgs bring to the table is pretty incredible.

Even Radiolab is becoming less bearable for me to listen to. The difference between that and This American Life are great. Similar styles, but the background sound/music/noises in Radiolab are just overwhelming. Only after becoming annoyed with it have I noticed that This American Life does the same thing, but you don't notice it due to the production quality. It becomes a part of the story, rather than distracting from the story.

However, I will say that the constant ads for The Message are quite obnoxious. I can't even give it a try. And Mystery Show was awful, though I did give it an honest chance.

Re: What Podcasts do you listen to?

We have 4 podcast threads.  This is the most recent.  Thus I post here.

Buddy and I just started a DIY podcast called DIomgY.  A bunch of you jag bags are friends on Facebook and will have already seen this, putting it out there for those that aren't.  Listen if you want, we're on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.  And I suppose whatever other services pull from those.
