Installing Stock Downpipe w/ full 3" catback. Gasket question!

Hey all,

Soooo I was planning on putting my stock downpipe on this weekend, but just realized I may have a problemo with the downpipe>catback connection. My catback is full 3" with no taper to 2.5" since my current downpipe is full 3". Will the stock downpipe be able to be hooked up to my catback if I remove the donut gasket and just use a flat 3" gasket like what I have on it now? Or will I need to buy an adapter to mate the OEM donut gasket to the 3" catback flat gasket side?

Edit: Regarding turbo-downpipe gasket, I just went to Subaru and bought 2. Better safe than sorry

My 3" SRS exhaust was connected this way for a week while I was waiting on my CNT downpipe. They can be connected with the gasket. You just will have a small exhaust leak where the flanges don't line up. Didn't throw any codes or cause any problems for me.

Sure I mated a STI CBE to a 3 inch axleback using just a 3 inch flat gasket...

But are you going back to the stock map? I am not sure it is a good idea to put the stock DP on running the stage II map...

Got it, thanks for the replies guys. So, just remove the donut gasket and attach the stock downpipe to my 3" catback w/ a 3" flat gasket?  up

And yes Goob, I'll be flashing back to the stock map at the same time.

Re: Installing Stock Downpipe w/ full 3" catback. Gasket question!

I had previously removed my doughnut gasket from the stock downpipe so I just installed the downpipe to the catback using a 2.5" 2 bolt flat exhaust gasket. As far as I can tell there aren't any exhaust leaks. It just needs to last me a couple weeks and then I'll be swapping back to an aftermarket downpipe.

Re: Installing Stock Downpipe w/ full 3" catback. Gasket question!

If you have a flat flange, try to at least get the right gasket and if theres still tiny gaps you can just squeeze some RTV gasket maker on both sides of the gasket in the flange to fill any gaps of a poor gasket fitment. it will work fine for a long time assuming you don't need to take the exhaust off frequently. just "set it and forget it"
if you have the socket flange with the donut gasket, get the right one from the dealer, there's no substitutes

arrow-up Already set and forgotten. I was able to flat gaskets to work when I was running the stock downpipe to smog, and running my aftermarket one now. All good.
