Engine miss - P0301 & P0302

I've been reading through posts for most of the evening and decided I'd try a post.

My neighbor had a 2005 9-2x with 108K miles sitting in their driveway for the last couple years, I asked if they wanted to sell it and they said yes. My '91 Civic was getting tired with only 248K miles, I sold it in 2 days and moved forward on the 9-2x. They only wanted $400 for the Saab, it needed all new rotors and pads and the clutch has a little slip but only if it's floored at low rpms... not a bad deal. I bought all new rotors and pads off ebay for $130 and took a couple evenings after work to swap everything out. The car ran fine with the exception of a miss in the morning when the engine was cold (summer morning in Pa cold - mid 60's-low 80's). I figured it needed plugs, wires and maybe a coil pack. It wouldn't miss if I drove it the day before but if it sat for a couple days or it was damp the miss would happen more. Today, I left to grab something to eat from the office at around noon (I drove it to work at 8am), got about a half mile away and it started missing really bad. I had about half the power but no stalling. The dash lit up, check engine was flashing then went solid and the cruise light started flashing. The miss was very erratic. it would run fine then like snap into miss mode. Once the engine heated up it ran okay but it was only a short drive. Coming home I didn't think I was going to make it. The miss was pretty constant until the engine got hot then ran okay. It seems to me like there's a vacuum leak. It's like when the engines cool some type of vacuum valve opens to a hose that's leaking then once it warms that valve closes and it runs fine. I'm no mechanic but I do have some knowledge, when it's missing it's just like some of the cars I've owned that I've disconnected a vacuum line and the engine misses badly and shakes. I did pull the above mentioned codes and replaced the plugs this evening. I wanted to replace then anyways. The passenger side front and driver's side rear plugs electrode was almost gone.

Re: Engine miss - P0301 & P0302

Doesn't seem like anyone's one here but.... I did fix the car. I replaced the coil pack and it's been running fine. The day after replacing the coil pack I took my 3 boys to the mountains and my wife drove the car. Somehow, not sure how, she caused the car to throw a cat/emission code. I cleared it and it never came back. Only my wife could do that!

Coil pacs seem to pop quite a bit in turbo Subarus Ive owned over the years. I always have a full spare set on stand by just in case.  cool

Now I'm getting a p402 - catalyst below threshold error. Never had that one before, I'm going to guess the Cat will need replaced.

Cheaper to buy an Access Port and the tune will make the code vanish smile
