Rear cargo area 12v power outlet

Ordered and received the Socket Assembly part #86711FA060 and Cap Assembly part #86712FA010 to hook a rear 12v socket in the back of my Saab 9-2x Aero.

I know that the Outback Sport had a factory installed one was wondering is there anything else i need to get this project done beside these 2 parts.

Also if anyone has a Outback Sport could you take and include a photo of what the factory setup looks like, that would be great.

Thxs

Re: Rear cargo area 12v power outlet

online photos don't show any wiring associated with the socket...

I have a $6 aftermarket socket tapped into the power line from the trailer wiring plug that is under/near the right tailight, under the cargo floor.  It's on all the time.

According to the Subaru websites the wiring is already there on there in the back behind the panel light, but you may have to put the relay in if it's not in place.

Re: Rear cargo area 12v power outlet

Sorry for the delayed response i installed the outlet last week.

1st i removed the following parts according to this photo http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7023/6656 … e954_b.jpg be careful you might brake the clips listed as #3, i did
2nd looked around for the wire it is attached to the wiring of the cargo area light
3rd i cut a hole in to the panel under the light, it is hollow and is where the outback sport has it located, pushed the wire out, plugged it into the socket and pushed the whole assembly into place, it has clips on the back of the oem socket to snap in to place.
4th put it all back together, total time about 15-20 mins and 20 bucks in parts.

This outlet and the oem electric rear view mirror should really have been standard on this car

If anyone wants pictures let me know, i cant figure out how to upload them to the forum.

Re: Rear cargo area 12v power outlet

Re: Rear cargo area 12v power outlet

@Tactical Pancake ill send you the photo of the plug when im off of work in another 3 or 4 hours.

@GaryB1 i have read most of the forums regarding the outlet in the back and im sure if you have the cargo area light you have the connector for the extra plug, since the plug is attached to the wiring of the light. The only posts that i found were no one had the plug there were for the Impreza TS the bottom line wagon, so no need to hardwire anything from the front of the car unless you wanted heavy gauge power in the back.

Re: Rear cargo area 12v power outlet

well thats pretty neat. my 03 Legacy doesn't have the wiring for the rear socket nor for trailer hitch light wiring, yet the Outback of the same year does, so thats annoying
