Hatch won't open

I am new to this car and it opened before I bought it, but... now it doesn't

I have read about pulling the plug and feeling for the lever, but haven't done that yet. My handle and components are rusty. I sprayed them with white lithium grease. I have also read about using a silicone or graphite.

The lock sounds like it is functioning properly and the handle has movement (seems unstuck)

I haven't yet found what could be the cause from others that have had this issue.

Re: Hatch won't open

I pulled that square off, you can't do much. So I un clipped the top, just standard door panel plugs. You can then see everything. I had to physically move the lever to open the hatch. It opens. Here's what I don't understand.

Lock it and unlock it: It opens, over and over again. As it should from the outside.

But once I try to open it when locked, (I physically try to open it from the outside) it will not open, as it should, but even after unlocking it, it will not open. So I know the lock works. I have to go back inside and move the lever to open it?

So, it's all good as long as I don't try to open it when it's locked...

Very confused here.

Re: Hatch won't open

Mine will become stuck if I try to open it while it is locked. If this happens, I then have to use my fob to unlock all doors, lock all doors, smack the rear Saab emblem with side of my fist, then unlock all doors again and it opens. Science!!!!
