I noticed light smoke coming from the engine bay of my 05 Aero 5MT when not moving. The smoke appeared to be coming from the passenger side of the engine, but it wasn't consistent and I couldn't easily ID the source. I did eventually find a small amount of unknown liquid in the circled section of the below photo and am thinking this may be related. Any thoughts on what is going on?
A few comments:
-This was the first time I've driven the car since it sat for 2 weeks while I was out of town
-I changed the oil + filter just before the car sat
-90K miles, Stage 2
-Recently new TB + WP
-All stock gaskets other than exhaust
Thanks in advance!!

Leaking from a coolant hose maybe? Did it smell like coolant or could you not tell a smell from the amount it was smoking?

I couldn't tell a smell unfortunately. Will try to go recreate the smoke tomorrow to see if I can get enough to smell it. May also try to swab some of the liquid I saw pooling.

Power steering pump is probably leaking. Not uncommon.

I can't view images from photo sharing sites at work, so this is a shot in the dark...
...But check the RF inner CV axle boot. They are known to split under the downpipe and fling axle grease on the hot exhaust. When under motion, the smoke exits under the car and is not noticeable. However, when stopped, it tends to pour out from under the right side of the car and out the hood scoop. I just replaced mine about 3 months ago for exactly the issue I describe.
Power steering pump is known to be a leaker on these cars, but not something that smokes typically (at least mine didn't).

power steering pump, pretty common that they leak. you can piece together a rebuild kit online probably for cheap.
also replace that hose in front that goes down to the tank, it gets hard and petrified
there is also an o-ring under the little elbow at the top of the tank

My PS pump leaks and it pools up on the valve cover. Haven't noticed it smoking though. Since you also just changed the oil it could be some of the old stuff sitting on the lower of the engine. Or some of the new stuff if you spilled any.

if it leaks enough or in the right way it will drip down the front or back of the engine and get on the exhaust, hence the smell and the smoke.

Haven't had any more smoke, but I am noticing the PS pump is whining and steering is stiff occasionally. I'm thinking the smoke may have been unrelated to the PS issue. I'm going to replace the o-ring at the top of the pump and see if this resolves the issue (https://howtune.com/articles/216-repair … za-wrx-sti). Will report back on results.
Thanks again!

Here is an overdue update:
-I replaced the top o-ring and still had leaking
-I then pulled the pump and replaced all the seals but still had leaking (probably because I stupidly stripped one of the 4 pump bolts by over tightening)
-I then replaced the pump with a refurb cardone for $80...so far so good!
