My wife got over 70k on the set that came on her 98 Legacy GT, they wore like iron and for most people were just fine. Bugeye WRX guys were giving them away for free (or close to it) I had many sets.

I like Conti DW or DWS tires now, good combination of ride comfort, noise and longevity. Wouldn't use them in real snow but the DWS gets the job done in milder winter locations. Discount Tire Direct often has multiple rebate deals.
