05 Saab Aero with 86K miles for 7K

Hi all,

Looking at getting a Saab 9-2X Aero for a 2nd car. This would be a daily/commuter/winter car for me. I found one nearby with 86K for $7K. 2 owners, no accidents. Looks really clean in the pictures. Not thrilled on the cloth interior (heard it stains easily?), but I can get over it. I don't know too much about them aside from it's basically a WRX and should be pretty reliable.  What do you guys think about the price? Being an auto, I would imagine it drops the value a little bit on these cars. What "tell tale signs" should I be looking for major issues? Key maintenance history I should be looking for?

Automatic is no biggie if you don't want it to be.  It's overdue for the timing belt maintenance.  Also make sure the passenger airbag recall has been done.

I wish people cared enough to put a SAAB emblem back on. The badgeless silver is so annoying for such an easy fix

Re: 05 Saab Aero with 86K miles for 7K

Wrx are reliable if you take care of them with immaculate maintainance.

It's low miles for sure. I think 7k isnt too far off a realistic price. Some. People will ask that for cars with twice the mileage. They won't sell for that but they still ask for it. I've seen some ridiculous price tags from dealerships.

Re: 05 Saab Aero with 86K miles for 7K

So if it's real and I buy it I need to post pics of feet and meat with the car?

But enlighten me on why it's a SCAM? Priced too low? I don't want to be wasting time...

Pyro might have jumped the gun here, F&M are expected in for sale threads to prove ownership of that which is shown in the photos along with said feet and said meat....   facepalm

Re: 05 Saab Aero with 86K miles for 7K

18 service records on the CARFAX, so that's good.  Looks like differential fluid was replaced recently, along with brake pads.  Only thing is that it was done at the dealer and they might not know what fluid is best for these cars.  Dealer looks fairly small.  Doesn't say anything about timing belt, so I doubt its been done

Re: 05 Saab Aero with 86K miles for 7K

If it was me, I'd check on the 2 recalls.

I'd also plan on doing the following:

- timing belt/components replacement
- radiator
- hoses
- tstat
- belts

- idler pulley Subaru Part Number:    73131FC000
- front badge <--- required  biggrin

Not all of those are required, but doing them would eliminate about 80% of the issues we had in the 200K miles life of our 92x.

Here's a link that discusses some of these items.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr … ?t=1616435

I'd also check out the power steering pump (look for leaks)

Re: 05 Saab Aero with 86K miles for 7K

You don't want that car. Rust coming through on driver's rear quarter panel is from the inside and means there could be heavy rot up in the strut tower. If you just clean it/seal it/paint it, it will come back. Needs sheet metal work for a lasting repair. People have found awful rot under their rear carpet with none visible on the exterior of the car. Strut tower is structural and rust here is not a good thing. It is a design flaw and pretty much all Impreza wagons from this era are affected. See this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr … ?t=2391932

Also, somehow they have bumped up the price from $7k to $8k

Thanks for the heads up. After they bumped the price up, I decided not to pursue it any further.
