Problem with turbo? Can you guys help me out?

Hi everybody, I have an 05 Aero with 86,000 miles. Ive had it for 2 years without an issue, however the past couple days she started acting up. Whenever it gets to around 3,000rpms instead of it getting some boost from the turbo it just revs up rapidly and i get no acceleration. She is struggling. It does this in all gears but 3rd seems to be the worst. I havent had real time to look closely and its been snowing. Ive been lurking these forums for awhile and know you all are much smarter than me. Ive also searched for a while and couldnt seem to find this exact problem. So if anybody could help me out that would be great!

So your engine RPMs go up but the car doesn't move faster?  Sounds like a bad clutch.  Try putting the car in 4/5th and starting out like you were in first (but don't give it gas).  If the car stalls then it might be good.  If the car doesn't stall it's because the clutch is slipping.

Agree with itnotme, I experienced similar problems where in 3rd or 4th and accelerating the tach would climb a thousand rpms or so and drop back down. I too posted to the forum not knowing what it was and seeking advice and was told it was a clutch on it's way out.  When I took it to a shop they confirmed it was my clutch and I had the clutch and flywheel replaced.

Here's my thread which contains a video showing what I experienced - it should still work.

I apologize for my ignornace of the problem and fail in describing the problem as well as you did. ha.

Re: Problem with turbo? Can you guys help me out?

It sounds like the clutch then, because i tried starting in 4th with no gas and the car did not stall. I also thought that the clutch would only matter when changing gears, guess I'm stupid. Its weird that this happened a few months after my wife's car got stolen and I taught her how to drive stick on my car and drive it around hah, I have to cringe whenever she takes it out of the driveway. Ive definitely been smelling the clutch every now and again too. So anything else I should replace or do while I have somebody change it? Thanks fellas

Full clutch kit should include all the goodies like a throwout bearing.  You may need a flywheel or a resurfaced flywheel but you won't know for sure until you take it apart.
