FS 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero, MT 135K miles, NH

For sale is my 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero, Manual transmission – Satin Gray Metallic. Currently 135,000 miles. Located in Dover, NH.

Premium package with original two-tone leather & HID headlights. Cold weather package with heated seats, mirrors, and windshield. Moonroof.

Love this car, the only reason I'm selling is that we are planning an indefinite road trip in our VW Westfalia van this summer and are not planning to keep the cars.

This is a fantastic car that has been meticulously maintained since I have owned it: oil changes every 4,000 mi with Castrol synthetic oil and subaru OEM filters. All scheduled maintenance has been taken care of and the car runs and handles flawlessly. I have made a number if performance improvements (see below) that, in my opinion, improve the car in appearance and performance without overdoing it or making it obnoxious. It is not stock but I have put significant thought into the upgrades I’ve performed to keep them subtle but substantive – to make this car what it really should have been out of the factory. I bought the car at 100,000 miles and have had it fluid film undercoated every year since owning it – No Rust! Interior and Exterior are in excellent shape for their age.

At 100,000 miles the car had a complete engine overhaul performed by Broken boxer repair (Brokenboxer.com) including a replacement EJ205 (stock) engine and turbo installed; replacement engine had 90k miles, turbo had 110k. Engine taken down to the deck and inspected for flatness, valves checked and adjusted, front and rear cam seals, leak down tested, and reassembled with: new OEM MLS head gaskets; OEM thermostat & gaskets; Intake, exhaust, throttle body, spark plug tube, and valve cover gaskets; front and rear main seals, coolant crossover O-rings; rear crank case cover resealed; new NKG spark plugs; Gates timing belt & water pump – all set for a while.

New OEM clutch kit also installed at 100K miles;

Upgrades:
Power/engine performance:
3” catback exhaust
Running a stage 1, 93 Octane tune
Thermal Zero Turbo Blanket

Shifting:
Kartboy short-throw shifter with Cobb delrin shift knob and Redline leather short shift boot
Kartboy Polyurethane shifter bushings (Front & Rear)
TurninConcepts Transmission Crossmember Bushings (polyurethane)
Ixiz Concept clutch limiter

Handling:
Kartboy billet aluminum sway bar end links (front and back)
Whiteline 24mm rear swaybar with polyurethane bushings
Whiteline billet aluminum rear swaybar mounts
17” Prodrive rims with summer tires (17” stock Enkei rims with winter tires included)

Other:
Rally Armor UR rally flaps (no holes drilled in body for installation)
Fumoto Oil drain valve
Sony Touchscreen Stereo (Original included)
Auto-dimming mirror
Lloyd rubber all weather mats for the Front seats and rear hatch
“Koji” headlights & Plasti-diped front grille

Maintenance:
If you're on this or other forums following these cars you know there’s a slew of maintenance items that show up around 100-110k. The following has been done:
New brake rotors and pads all 4 corners @ 100k;
New front sway bar mount bushings (OEM) @ 101k
Rear struts replaced with new OE struts @ 101k
Replaced power steering pump, belts, and Idler pulley replaced @ 110k
Passenger side Front CV joints/axle replaced @ 112k
Front struts replaced @ 115k

Recalls:

Nice ride! Certainly in great shape for 135k. Whats pushing you to get rid of it? I'm also curious about this fluid film, any prep required before application and cost?

We bought and have been restoring an old camper van and are planning to spend the next 6 months or so traveling in it. So we are doing some major simplifying and downsizing, including selling the saabaru.

As far as the fluid film: No major prep for it, I always wash the underside pretty good a day or so before I have it done. Otherwise they put it up in the air and spray the whole underside with an oil based film. They get up in the door jams and engine bay and in all the little nooks and crannies too. Its good stuff, really thick. There's usually still some left on in the spring. In my experience doing that every fall is the best way to keep the New England rust at bay. It also keeps all the nuts and bolts lubed up so it ends up being much easier to work on! Costs about $140 to do once a year. Not super cheap, but certainly better than having the car rust out.

If you only lived closer to Atlanta, I would be willing to give it a beautiful home in the south. It's about 1100 miles and 16 hours away. 🙁

Re: FS 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero, MT 135K miles, NH

Do you have any pics with the non-winter wheels by chance?
Also, I understand you can tip/remove the rear seat bottoms and have a flat cargo area?

I stumbled across this when looking to buy a V70R and I think I may like these better! I've got a local guy getting cold feet selling me his R but I may have to get this instead if he doesn't come through soon.

The seat bottoms come out with two bolts right behind the passenger's feet. After that the seats should fold flat. Here's a pic from the summer time with the prodrive wheels.

Re: FS 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero, MT 135K miles, NH

Thanks! It's a sharp looking car for sure. I'm starting to wonder if I wouldnt be better off with one of these since the wagons I want aren't available in manual. I'll let you know how it works out with this pending purchase, otherwise I may have to go for it. I have some friends in VT that are willing to help facilitate.

Re: FS 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero, MT 135K miles, NH

[ignore my PM, it looks like if I post from my cell phone without wifi on the forum considers verizon IP spam]

Two more questions for you:
- Your sig mentions a "catless upipe," is that still installed? Or is there anything you're aware of that would prevent it from passing emissions and safety in VA? (I realize the onus is on me for that, just trying to get a sense)
- What's your willingness to drive any distance (even if it was up to Burlington, VT with me dropping you in Dover on my way down)?

The more I look at this the more I'm thinking I wouldn't be happy with an auto V70R, and the first gens I want are a nightmare to swap, this Saabaru might just be a better option.  I may give this seller to the end of the week to put up or shut up.  Anything you know of on the car that would make you hesitant to jump in and put a few hundred miles on it?
Thanks!

Yeah, it does have a catless up-pipe installed. Quick background:To import the early wrx models (pre-06) to the us, Subaru had to add another cat and they put it in upstream of the turbo. This is problematic because it not only restricts the turbo, but when it fails it has a tendency to send the internals into the turbo torpedoing that and sometimes the engine too... The catless uppipe eliminates that risk. As far as emission's: Not sure what VA requires, around here its typically a visual inspection of the emissions equipment and this would never trigger that as it is not particularly visible (tucked up in the engine) and no one who is not intimately familiar with this particular model even knows It's supposed to be there. Anyone here from VA can give more insight?

Provided my schedule works out I would be willing to drive a bit to help with the sale. I'm up to White River Junction, VT fairly frequently and could probably figure out a meet up. (that being said id want to be pretty sure of a sale before driving hours out of my way...)

As far as driving a few hundred miles- zero hesitation. This thing is solid.

I don't know much about the V70Rs but I'll tell you that these saabarus are fantastic cars to own. The wrx wagon is an awesome platform and it's incredibly satisfying to drive and to work on. There's lots of room for improvement if you want it and they are easy to work on and respond extremely well to improvement. The Saab is a nice addition too - keeps it a little classier (in my opinion) and the uniqueness of the car is awesome!

That's great information, thanks. I imagine as long as there's a downstream cat and no codes, it would pass.

I have a lot to think about, we'll be in touch!

You've got it! I'd check on Nasioc.com or a local Subaru enthusiast Facebook group if you're not sure. I'm sure you'll be able to find some people in VA who know the ins and outs of that issue with regard to VA emissions inspections.

arrow-up Stage 1 tune eliminates the temperature sensor CEL code (IIRC P0546?) that would be associated with de-catting of the up pipe.
