Transmission Locked

As I was leaving early this morning I attempted to throw the shifter into reverse, but missed and landed in 4th. Not really a big deal, as I am facing uphill and can just roll back a bit before taking off. However, even with the clutch pressed in and parking brake lowered, I wasn't rolling. This was odd, so I tried moving the shifter to neutral, only to find it firmly stuck in gear. Even after giving considerable force it would not budge. Wondering if anyone has any advice on what may be the issue or something to try to get it unstuck. I'm defiantly wanting to get it into a shop and have it looked at.  embeer

Re: Transmission Locked

Sounds like you're on a steep hill, You may need to force the car to roll forwards (uphill) , maybe with a winch or another car to push/pull?

You may have damaged the transmission. Hard to say just based on this information. You could have broke a tooth in the trans and it got lodged somewhere and now it won't budge.

Re: Transmission Locked

Can't personally see how an attempted start in 4th would damage a transmission. It would smoke a clutch if you were determined to get the car going, but gears? I'm assuming the car is running, so i would look at the clutch. I would say something in the clutch let go and the car is resting against 4th gear and the clutch wont disengage. if you park on a hill, shut the car off, put it in gear and then let the car roll against the transmission...it's going to be very difficult to shift it into neutral without opening the clutch. Thats where I would start.

Re: Transmission Locked

The car cranks fine and runs with the clutch disengaged, but the clutch defiantly smokes when trying to get it moving. The shifter won't budge and the car won't roll backwards. I'm on a decent slope, so I'll check on a tow next week.

Re: Transmission Locked

I finally got around to solving this. It was the same issue brought up here: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showth … ?t=2290192. Got some hefty help to rock it from behind and got it loose. driving
