Rear wheels seem to slip before gaining traction?

Hello everyone. I've been driving my car around Seattle and I'm starting to notice something odd with my car when I'm on a hill. I have a 2005 Saab 9-2x 5MT and I've noticed that when I'm on a steep slope of a hill, my back rear wheels seem to slip before gaining traction. I didn't give this too much of a concern in the beginning, but recently I'm starting to notice it happening even in a rather regular sloped hill or even on a flat surface when I'm trying to merge onto traffic. Does anyone have an explanation for this? I've read around and perhaps my alignment could be the culprit? Or maybe my AWD system is not functioning properly? Any insight would be very helpful. Thank you!
