Saab 9-2X Camper?

Hi everyone, new here, as I recently picked up a 2005 Saab 9-2x Aero (4EAT).

I'm wondering if anyone has turned theirs into a camper/sleeper? I really want to be able to sleep out of the back of it when I go backpacking and need to crash a night at the trailhead, without going through the hassle of setting up camp at night.

Has anyone made a setup for this that's easy to set up and fold down? I want to be able to drive with the second row of seats up when not using it.

I didn't see anything when I searched the forums, so I figured I would ask!

Re: Saab 9-2X Camper?

I've thought about building a platform that would go just to the tops of the wheel wells to get more length / width in a sleeping platform (be able to recline the front seats all the way and have the platform go all the way to the steering wheel for maximum length) but I've slept in it a few times and headroom is already pretty lacking, so I don't think a platform would work out well.

If you're already roughing it, why not just put down the back seats, roll out a sleeping pad, and call it good? That's what I've done and honestly it's not too bad.

Or, you could build it out like Richard Hammond did to a WRX:

05 Arctic Silver Aero MT Stage 2
05 Blue Aero MT Stage 2 - Totaled 5/10/14 by stop sign runner sad

Re: Saab 9-2X Camper?

Lol sleeping in that car is a pain. I could never sleep in that small of a smace, but im also 6 feet tall and can not for the life of me, sleeping laying flat on my back.

Now that i look at it, the passenger seat is removed. While that would alleviate the issue for tall people (something Richard Hammond is not lol) it still leaves the sleeping, facing straight up  banghead
