Question about Auto-dimming/compass Rearview Mirror

I'd like to add an Auto Dimming/Compass to my '05 Aero.  Is this an option?  Is the wire harness there, just capped off? or will I have to run my own wire to get power? I've seen any number of the WRX mirrors in ebay.  Will they be a viable choice?

Re: Question about Auto-dimming/compass Rearview Mirror

The wiring is there.  Plug and play should only take a few minutes to fish out the wire.  IIRC it is tucked back in the map light area which require pulling that piece off.

Also, there are a couple of LED colors out there.  I have the more blue-ish color, my buddy has the green-ish one.

Yeah, it's plug and play.  The only time you'll run into a problem is if you do what I did, and buy a mirror off of a '06 or '07 wrx (can't remember which).  The mounts are different (camlock vs. wedge) and so I have had to use an adaptor plate which i bought on ebay.  The 05 mirror is a direct plug and play, but the 06 mirrors are smaller

I did  this mod a couple of years ago...mine is bluish.

I wish I'd waited and got the one that opens remote garage doors...

Re: Question about Auto-dimming/compass Rearview Mirror

I snagged a used Homelink mirror off of eBay.  All I needed was the wiring harness as it was cut.  I bought the harness & cover online from Chaplins Subaru, real cheap.

Homelink HARNESS Part# H501SAG030       $9.87

HARNESS COVER    Part# H501SAG040        $4.94

Re: Question about Auto-dimming/compass Rearview Mirror

I was looking into this one as well. My last car had the auto-dimming compass and I've been missing that feature since!

Do you know the part number for the 05 / 06? I'd like to find one for my 06, but knowing my luck I'd wind up with the wrong year as well.

Re: Question about Auto-dimming/compass Rearview Mirror

I know this thread is old, but... this was the easiest thing I ever done to my Aero. As far as diy and very happy with the results. I love my new auto dimming mirror. Well worth the $110 paid for it

Re: Question about Auto-dimming/compass Rearview Mirror

I bought an used one cheap off ebay (auto dim + homelink for $80), got a different mount button for my windshield and wired myself with no issues-   smile

Re: Question about Auto-dimming/compass Rearview Mirror

Do not want to thread jack, but i assume the 06 linear has this wiring as well and will require the 06 WRX mirror? Just asking cause the linear obviously has a different wire harness

Re: Question about Auto-dimming/compass Rearview Mirror

Homelink is really nice, this is the first car I've ever had it. I have the auto-dim rear view but never use the feature.
