Thank you. Not bad I guess for running at full weight with stock 18" Hufs and Conti DWS a/s's. I was able to cut a 2.1 60ft on that run, which is pretty decent for a heavy fwd car.

A few things have been holding me back though. The big one is chronic misfiring above 5500 rpm which really hurts my pull at the top end and keeps my traps low. I've replaced all the obvious stuff trying to solve the issue: bigger FMIC core (I thought my first core might be leaking), plugs, intake, MAF, lpfp (recently upgraded with an R32 in-tank pump), fuel pump control module, low pressure fuel sensor, fuel filter, etc. I'm also on my third K04 tune, having started with APR, then GIAC, and now Driver Motorsport. It's looking more and more like I have a bad S3 fuel injector, or I'm one of the unlucky handful of people whose cars came with a weak batch of valve springs. Either way it has already cost a fortune trying to correct the issue, and is going to cost me about a grand to pursue any further.

I was happy to break into the 13s but not happy to misfire on every run, and it was pretty disheartening to see my friend with the same level of mods run 12.9 in his Golf R. Other K04 GTI forum friends of mine are already in the 12s, and I want my piece of the pie, dammit.

Re: Went to the dragstrip today, slightly dissappointed?

Bump. Took the Warhammer to the drag strip about a month ago. I managed to run a bunch of 15.2s at 91 and 92mph, with 2.3 60ft times. Not terrible for a 4000lb fwd car with only 275hp and rock hard 700 treadwear all-season white line tires. Traction control was super invasive and non-defeatable, so I had to roll into the gas slowly to avoid any kind of tire spin as that'd cut power. Also, 3rd gear felt way too tall. With shorter (for better effective gearing) sticky tires, some tricks to disable traction control (which would involve some rewiring shenanigans), and cooler conditions I have no doubt the Warhammer could run a 14.8 or 14.9.

Out of curiousity how much $/time did you invest to get that 13.7@102?  Just curious, cause my best run with a slight launch (1.9 60') is 13.6@100 w/ VF and supporting mods/tune.

Way too much, although there were lots of redundant parts (multiple intakes, multiple tunes, etc.), repair upgrades, and preventative maintenance parts that added to the tab. The car was super slow for what it had for mods and I tried all sorts of different parts combos trying to solve the 5,500rpm misfire issue. The fact that it had over 140k on the clock at the time probably didn't help either.

Other mkv's have run 12s at 110-112mph with the same level of mods, so my car was way off the mark.

I could probably retrace my steps for around $4500 buying the right parts; about $1500 less if I built a TSI dsg car.

Re: Went to the dragstrip today, slightly dissappointed?

Thanks man. I miss that car. I'm considering getting a TSI version and doing a budget do-over using carefully selected used parts. It really was a great car in most respects. The TSI is cheaper to make faster (better fueling, stronger rods, more efficient breathing). I'd probably go with a dsg to avoid the expensive clutch swap needed once these things make power, and because dsg cars are significantly faster at a given level of modification. Plus the get better gas mileage.

Re: Went to the dragstrip today, slightly dissappointed?

Kind of OT, but without a doubt the stock 2015 WRX is quicker than my Stage 2 92X (the CVT is a much better auto as well of course).  The CVT is really good in the WRX, better than in the Forester XT.

This seems to be backed up by the 1/4 times that people are getting - mid 13s with 100+ mph trap.  So I am not surprised by the numbers the OP posted. 60ft times around 1.8s for the new WRX.  The person who posted the times said he ran roughly the same time in his stock '09 STi.

Lose as much weight as possible and of course, as allowed by the rules. The rear seat is pretty heavy, especially the seat back.

If you are going to be going to the track a lot, I would look into a lighter battery and racing fuel. VP113 seems to be a popular choice, especially amount the Subie crowd.

Apparently imprezas have self-lightening seat backs. Particularly around the shock towers. biggrin

The seat bottom is actually very light.  The weight is much more in the seat backs.

Racecar stuff. Frustrating day, actually. Went to a huge FB page Mass tuner meet at the drag strip. Surrounded by cool cars and good people. Barely got to interact with them or see much of anyone run because the track was moving slow as ballz between disorganized running of various run groups (with test n tuners squeezed in here and there), and breakages shutting down the track. I spent $35 to get 2 runs in 3 hours, spent the rest of my time standing around next to my car since we never knew when we'd be summoned to run, then had to drive an hour and a half back to my gf who was on the warpath, so I missed out on the feast of runs I would have had if I could have waited another hour or so. Plus my car was having electrical issues which made the trip pretty nerve wracking since my digital gauges stopped working and I've been dealing with an intermittent no-start/ battery drain issue.

Anyhow, there were some high points along with the bad. For example, I ran a 15.3 on my first run and beat a kid in an SRT-4, which was hilarious. I beat him at the tree, he panicked when I jumped out on him, and he proceeded to overcompensate by giving it too much gas out of the hole, spinning like crazy for the first part of the track while I wafted away. I think he had a 2.7 or 2.9 60ft to my 2.3. I kept waiting for him to catch traction and blow by me by the halfway mark but it never happened, and I beat him by carlengths, running 15.3 at 91mph to his 15.7 at 96mph. I have a video of it which I'll try to share when I figure out how to get it from Facebook.  driving

My second run was much more routine: Got raped by buslengths by your standard 11 second big turbo Civic on drag slicks.  unamusedm

Re: Went to the dragstrip today, slightly dissappointed?

That SRT4 had a slow trap speed too..... car was beat or horrid driving past the first 60 ft.  Even stock it should have trapped at closer to 100mph shitty launch and a all.

Back in the day I butchered a launch in my 86 5.0 and ran a 15.9 at 95.... think it was a 2.7 60 ft.  On a good run it would do a 14.4 or 14.3 at 96 or 97.

It can be highly variable, depending on the day and the time of day, but typically you get 2-4 runs in an hour, with an hour between runs on the busiest days. If I stuck around past the time bracket races and heads up races finished I would have been able to feast until 11p but I had to leave around 6 while the actual racing was drawing to a close. I reaaally wanted to stick around because temps were dropping and track prep was much better than it was when I ran my traction-limited 15.2 last year. Pretty sure I could have run a 15.1 or 15.0. It was gratifying to see that, along with the expected 11 and 12 second monsters, there were a lot of tuner cars running similar times as me or even slower. Would have been fun to stick around.  hmm

Yes, the SRT4 did trap on the low side but I think that's because he was spinning for at least 1/3 of the  way down the track and never really had a chance to get going, lol. His car was also geared more towards stance, and his lightly stretched tires obviously didn't help.

My friend posted the video onto the MassTuning Facebook page for the lulz and the SRT-4 kid chimed in and, to his credit, was a great sport about it. Totally willing to admit he lost fair and square; no excuses other than being a total nOOb who needs to work on his driving and setup.  up up

You're not alone. It made a big impression given its limited number of runs and I got a lot of positive attention there and on the MassTuninng FB page. It's hard not to love a full-sized Cadillac being used Ina horribly inappropriate manner.  tongue

I was seriously considering autocrossing it at the event, but didn't want to push my luck after the digital gauges all went away. Couldn't monitor any of the engine functions and I needed the car to get me back to Squam Lake NH and then back to Boston again the next day. Now THAT would have been truly epic.
