Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

Love the idea of this car, but with the same engine as the base mustang (which comes in at $24k), it seems a bit much at $40k, even for awd.  They definitely need to price it under the Golf R.

Seriously, how do you pre order this car ? Never done this before, just drop by any dealership and drop some deposit ? In the market for a new car next year.

Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

A little lighter, a little more "numb" feeling.  No idea what the RS will be like though, wouldn't compare the ST to it for drive train reasons.

Like Volkswagen or Mazda light? I tend to prefer heavy and deliberate.

I don't have experience in either. What manual isn't a pain in the ass after a while in traffic?

My gti's stock clutch was so light and easy to modulate that I could sit in stop n go traffic for hours no sweat. It became a bit more challenging once I got a grabbier aftermarket clutch insert paired with the laggier K04 upgrade but it was still a lot less taxing than driving the Aero in traffic.

Vee-dub clutches do make it nice.  The saab and my M3 both suck.

Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

I'm torn, the clutch in my GF's Mazda2 is light as anything, but it is just so easy to drive.  I liked the lighter clutch in my linear over the WRXs I've driven, but after owning more than a dozen manuals (to include a WRX and an M3) I've never been bothered by any of them in traffic unless my hip or knee was acting up.

Don't confuse work with feel. The factory mkv GTI clutch had decent feel, but more importantly, it had a consistent engagement point combined with a quick spoiling turbo and precise e-throttle tuning that made it extremely easy to drive smoothly right off idle and at low rpm. Also had very little drivetrain lash. Every aspect of the drivetrain including ECU tuning was so well integrated that it was a breeze to drive in traffic.

Re: 2016 Ford Focus RS

I test drove a 1.0 liter Ecoboost Focus yesterday (having owned performance cars my whole life, it, like the '14 JSW I test drove earlier, was a nice appliance) and its clutch was light with some feel. When I got back into my Aero, it felt like something was broken or stuck under the clutch pedal  eek.  All of this time I thought you guys were being babies whining about the Aero clutch effort (my //S6 pedal is about twice as stiff, but it's also worn past the mechanical advantage point) but now I guess I know better.
