Hey guys,
*******UPDATE****************************************
So yeah, I have taken a dremel to the wheel and smoothed out and it looks a ton better. Now I have some bare metal showing and am worried about corrosion. Now, I want to paint the edge of the wheel. Is the wheel actually painted? What would the color be of our wheel? OR, should I just clearcoat it? Any suggestions? I want to avoid taking it to a wheel shop. Thanks
Cheers
Ken
***************************************************
So, as some of you know, the midwest had some shitty weather on friday. Here in WI we got some snow and sleet/ rain. I was at work when this all started. Once 5PM rolled around we had over an inch of slush on the ground....made the driving crap. The other day me and my buddy were talking about winterizing our cars. I thought of putting my winter tires/rims on.....I said "it wont snow before thanksgiving" AH! yeah right. Remember, I have the 17" wheel package.
So here i am drving cautiously down the road on the north side of Milwaukee. The Saab started hydroplaning and started spinning. I did one 180 and tried to regain control by just stomping on the brakes (since I was heading straight)...then I was heading towards a phone pole. I thought that tonight I did not want to hit the pole and tried to compensate to get around... after spining the wheel all the way round I then spun one more time (avoiding the pole) but then hitting the curb pretty good at 30 mph. The backwheel got it pretty good (as you can see). That scratch goes around about 80% of the wheel.
I took the Saab on the road today and there is no wobble, noise coming from the rear. Once I get my winters on, I'll have the dealer take the tire off the wheel so I can work on it.
Any suggestions for a fix or things to check?
Here is a pic to tell the story.
Cheers
Ken

Yeah I figured it out later it was a delete. It freaked me out at first. I thought you have gotten hidden mod previledges.

Yikes Ken! Sorry to hear about what happened. At least it isn't cracked and the damage seems to be confined to the edges, one of the wheel repair shops should be able to take care of that.
The good news: eurospek wont steal your rims in your sleep now that they are tainted

It's a fairly easy process.
Ha!...I dont have one...can I borrow anyones to go back?
I am thinking some dremel with a few different bits will work out. I will have the dealer check for bent suspension parts...didnt think of that one. I am hoping that all will be good. After drivinng her around this weekend she seemed ok. I dont know how much a shop would charge to fix it. When I head in, I will have to ask them. I am thinking the steelies will have to go on this week.

Pretty much what everyone said. You're going to want to have a full alignment check, however, including chassis checks which would include measurements from corner to corner (each should measure the same) wheelbase and track measure and thrustline measures. Pretty well can be checked by any decent alignment shop (NOT Sears!). Since the wheel isn't bent, I rather doubt there is chassis issues, but for the sake of your tires and your handling, worth checking out.
As for the wheel, there are several rim repair shops that could repair it, but typically the shipping costs to get the rim to the shop makes it hard to justify. For points of reference, you may want to try http://www.wheelsamerica.com to see if they have a relatively local shop near enough to you, but I'd suspect that the price of a replacement from http://www.stateofnine.com would be close enough to just buy a new rim.

lol@ Archie's avatar!
Ken, that really sucks. Let me know if you need help locating "cheap4r" stock parts..

So took her on the highway the other day and gave it some gas....no shaking or anything like that at 100. I will still have the alignment checked out when I take it in for my 22,500. I think that this has given me reason to go to this stage a little earlier...................

What size tires and steelies are those?

that should be the last time I hear of anyone using those re011 over 10mph in anything but dry roads I hope!!! They seriously are dangerous tires in cold wet/ice conditions. I am glad it was only the 17'' that took the damage.

Glad it was only the wheel.
How much snow did you end up getting? We got about 6" of HEAVY stuff up here. The wife took the Saabaru out bombin that night.

Um, we got about an inch of slush which pretty much melted by the evening. I know more away from the lake there was about an inch or snow or so. I have not had a chance to take my girlfriend bombing in the snow yet. She is from New Orleans and has not really seen mcuh snow/driven in it.

Replace the wheel. even if they can fix it, it will be difficult as they will have to weld a new "seam" to the wheel to form the lip.
So, i would suggest keep that as a full size spare after sanding the curb marks to prevent puncture, and get another wheel.
It is not like it is a rare imported wheel [i had to have one fixed after being cut off, folded the lip on an old school wheel, and folded it HARD].
So an replacement should be cheap and you get a full size spare
