Not really.  Most of us got $8,000 off the sticker price.  I always found it hilarious how people who bought WRX is paid more than I did for a not as good looking and not quite as nice car. I got mine for under $20,000.    biggrin  WRX's at the time were going for closer to 25k with less options.  There were some butthurt WRX owners out there for sure!

Motor Trend has a road test on their web page too.

The 05 Aero had shit power delivery and was so freaking slow stock.  I remember when I bought it i was annoyed but knew that it could be fixed for less than $1,000.

No doubt. I went with a friend to pick up his SAAB 9-3 and we saw the SAAB 9-2x sitting in the show room. Neither one of us had heard a peep about the car, despite both following car blogs, and automotive news. GM did a pretty crappy job of marketing the SAAB 9-2x.
I test drove both the SAAB 9-2x Aero and Subaru WRX - there was no comparison. The biggest difference for me, was the SAAB felt more sure footed in corners and braking than the Subaru.

As for the power, I first changed the air intake with the bypass elbow - I think it cost like 30 bucks. You basically take out that huge air resonator from the right front tire well and install a small plastic elbow in its place. Made a huge difference. Later I replaced the bypass elbow with the Prodrive Cold Air intake but I didn't notice much of a power difference. Huge difference on the blow off sound for some reason.

One huge plus to the SAAB 9-2x is the availability of aftermarket parts to boost power and handling.

2005 SAAB 9-2x Aero, Arctic Silver Metallic Prodrive CAI, Cobb endlinks, Porterfield brake pads R4-S, and stripped interior.
