9-2x Aero - Good choice as an "in between" car?

Hello,

I currently daily a V6 Camry and also own a supercharged M3. Seeing as the M3 is not street legal, I am often left quite bored in the Camry all week long at best and for months at a time (during the winter) at worst... Obviously, this is only a "1st world problem" haha but I am looking for a third car to fill the gap between the two.

AWD is not really necessary where I live despite the snow (it is all very flat). But having owned a 325xi prior to the Camry, I know how much more fun an AWD car can be in the snow. I have also never owned a turbo car before, thus my interest in owning a car that has both. An EVO is way out of my price range but I would like to stick with a Japanese (err in this case, Japanese based) car as opposed to getting something like an S4 or 335xi. Also do not really want anything too old like a DSM GSX/TSX. I have been very interested in Saabs lately (specifically the Viggen) and I do think the 9-2x Aero looks far better than its WRX counterpart.

I would be looking for a car that has been well maintained but already has at least a tune + bolt-ons. The primary purpose(s) here would be to have a car that is more fun (and obviously more capable) in the winter but still a lot of fun the rest of the year on back roads and possibly at autox. Would an FBO Aero be a good choice given all of the above? I do not need the car to be that fast (speed is all relative anyway) but it would be nice if it at least felt faster than the Camry, yet was still reliable at that power level (thinking around 280awhp).

For comparisons sake- I have ridden in my friend's 2011 Cobb Stage 2 WRX as well as a tuned 2013 Genesis Coupe 2.0t (both around 280-300whp). I would say they are both fun enough for what I am looking for. I am also open to FWD cars like the Mazdaspeed 3 if any of you have owned or driven one? (Focus ST is also out of my price range).

Thanks for your feedback!

They're defiantly fun cars, especially with a few mods. Where are you located?

I just had some bolt-ons and a tune.  I enjoyed it but for what I put into it, personally, I didn't think it felt all that fast.  I've driven some stock Mazdaspeed3s and GTIs and to me, those felt a lot peppier and quicker.

For sure a fun car. Maybe not the fastest you'll drive, but you probably won't be disappointed either. I agree that's a much better looking car than most WRXs, which helps too.

I've driven a viggen as well and would heartily recommend that car too if you can find one. I think on paper its not as fast as a 9-2x aero, but the turbo is MUCH less laggy and driving them side-by-side (my dad has a '99 Viggen) I think the lack of AWD makes it feel faster too. The 9-2x is so solid on the road and with power to all 4 wheels, you don't feel the pull quite as much as on the viggen. It's also a real looker of a car...

I live and commute within the Tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT and technically PA).

Do you think the torque steer is what made those cars feel quicker or at least, more exciting?

I probably should've mentioned earlier that my M3 makes over 500rwhp, so my perception of speed has been completely altered haha. I'm going more for the whole, "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than it is to drive a fast car slow" approach.

For sure! There was a Lightning Blue Viggen for sale not too far from me a couple of months ago. I would've snatched it up except it had a salvage title... quite a pain to deal with, at least inter-state wise.
