My project Saabaru

An so here is my black 2005 Saab 92x aero after 1 1/2 years of hard work.

https://imgur.com/a/eomNq

The car was severely neglected, had a seized motor, no engine oil, every possible exhaust leak, catback held on by bungee cords, body damage, a disgusting interior, crap coilovers but absolutely NO RUST.
I had to save it.

Project rescue my black 05 aero:
Ill be installing a 01-02 jdm STi version 7 motor, matching 6 speed transmission, prop shaft, r180 diff and cv axles.
Cobb catted turbo back and a set of red 4/2 pot brakes.

Re: My project Saabaru

I managed to get some work done before the holidays but now winter arrived, I'm in no rush to go outside and freeze my ass working on the car. Here is all I have to show for now.

Re: My project Saabaru

At one point I picked up a ver 8 long block minus everything you don't see. The idea was to do an 18g turbo and use the intake manifold off the donor ej205 with tgv deletes. Plans changed, I'll keep the ver 8 long block as spare or sell it later.

Re: My project Saabaru

Technically, I own 3 ej207 long blocks. The bare long block on the picture above I had planed on using on the black aero project but changed my mind and going forward with a ver 7 drive line instead. Since I'll have two cars running on ej207 motors it can't be a bad idea to keep a spare ver 8 long block around. I'm also a bit of a hoarder, I like having lots of spare parts.

Re: My project Saabaru

Parts parts and more parts, they just keep on rolling in. When I have a chance I'll post pictures of all the stuff. The motor arrived with damage to the timing belt cover and the two lower cam gears. That's all resolved, they paid for all the damaged parts, not a huge hassle.

Re: My project Saabaru

Thanks to the good weather I was able to make a bit of progress on the rescue. Actually worked on the ej207, took off the down pipe, took off the up pipe, removed the factory turbo inlet pipe and installed a sweet looking red Perrin inlet pipe.

Unfortunately I could not dedicate all my attention to the rescue, my new daily driver also took a bit of my day. I've been doing lots of work on the outback to bring it up to my standards. Installed a Magnaflow catted exhaust manifold as the original catalytic converted was done. Finally got rid of the check engine light. Also replaced the y pupe and mufflers. Took advantage of the fact that the mufflers were off and installed a hitch, now I can transport my bicycles on me hitch bike rack. Had new Continental extreme contact DWS 06 installed and all new tire monitor sensors, no more freaking light. Installed my Alpine navigation head unit, new PCV, new oem spark plugs, new oem air filter element, oil change with oem filter. Been treating the fuel and the engine oil with Marvel Mystery Oil, hoping to get rid of the oil consumption. Got a set of KYB Excel G struts to go on within the next couple of weekends.

Re: My project Saabaru

My outback is a 2008, fucking tire monitor sensors go bad and cost $80 per wheel installed. I'm the type of person that can't tolerate lights on the dashboard telling me something is wrong, irritates the lights out of me.

Slow progress, swapped cloth seat covers from a set of 06 seats on to my 05 front seat frames, rears is just a simple install. I will detail the interior once the car is all done. the interior is looking much better, really makes me feel like its going to turn out well.
