We said we were going to switch bikes at some point on White Rim but honestly I was having too much fun on the little WRR. It would happily put some air under the tires on the whoops and do 70 on the dirt.

What tires are you running and what pressure do you use off road?
I'm going to go a little more aggressive on mine, but still do mostly street riding. I'm thinking of going with Full Bore M40's to keep the street riding more comfortable.

Mike loves full bores. He was running the K60 Scouts for this ride though. With the rear mounted backwards no less!

The k60's are supposed to be a great tire. I just cant beat the price of the Full Bores @ $140 for both delivered to my door.

I have them on my Strom. A bit noisy at highway speeds and on the pricier side. Can't speak much to their dirt prowess, since I picked up the WRR I always take that one on the dirt.

Have you guys found a tire that's good in the mud? I'm running Shinko 705s front and rear, and it's no bueno. Do I really need to get a pure knobby one in order to have mud not get stuck in the grooves?

The705's are exactly like the full bore's, but the full bore's have larger block spacing. They are really only good for lighter off road riding.
The K60's and Karoo 3's are a more agressive tire that might handle mud better for you, without giving up too much road prowess.
If you need more hard core, the Kenda Big Block, and Shinko 805's might be the way to go. They are more aggressive and will give up more in on road performance though.

Thanks for the info. I'm not quite sure what my priorities should be at this point. Don't want to give up much traction for emergency braking, and the latter two look like they would definitely do that. The former 2 have front wheels that look like they'd just give me the same issues as I have now. Should probably just be patient and wait for any trails to dry out since I'm an off-road n00b anyway.

I do. I got 6k on the rear of the S-10, 'bout the same on the Versys, mostly loaded touring. I'm guessing two rears to every front... so 12K for less than $300. Much better road manners than the Heidenaus.
The K-60s are interesting... pretty good straight ahead on the highway, but the front howls a bit as soon as you lean.

I get them from Chaparral for about $160?
BTW... I ran the K-60s at the pressure recommended by Tabasco on the Super Tenere site. 36/42, and didn't air down at all for the dirt...

Amazon has them in my size for like $54 front $84 rear. But my sizes are different than the S10 I think. My front is 90/90-21

Considering it goes for 22-24k new, I'd say it's cheap! If that was available when I bought my V-Strom 650 barebones for about the same price, you can be sure I'd have a monstrous bike in my garage right now.

It's badass, for sure. I would love to find a ~2004 R1150R rockster for sale, but I never see those either.

This is mine currently:
Put in a 170cc cylinder and piston, 4 valve head, 34mm throttle body, intake and pod filter, new ecu, oil spinner deleted, few other misc things. Currently making somewhere around 24-26ish hp compared to the stock 8 hp. It's an animal to ride with this short wheelbase.
