ECU QUESTIONS! 06 Saab 92x 2.5i Automatic

My engine died on me after I exited the freeway and I took it to RBMS Autocare in Hayward, CA. They think that the ECU got wet from the storm and is what's causing the issue. It's been a couple weeks now and they said it's very hard to find an ECU from the same year/model/transmission/etc.

1. Will an ECU from any 92x work?
2. If the 92x and WRX are mechanically the same, would an ECU from a WRX work?

I really need my car back and if anyone has information I'd really appreciate it!

The ECU is inside the car, under the passenger side carpet, under a metal carpet.

Was the inside of your car full of water?

This is a Forester, but same basic spot.

Yes I forgot to mention that. There was a leak somewhere which caused a puddle in the passenger side rear floor, and the passenger side floor was really wet too.

When I exited the freeway I had to brake firmly on a downhill. This could have pushed the water towards the ECU.

arrow-up You mean to say you drove around with a puddle of water in your passenger floor? eek

Did the bay get a bunch more rain? We got a fairly light overnight rain last Wednesday but nothing else. You gotta find the source of that leak, no bueno.

I don't remember driving over any puddles. I did install some roof rails that could have caused the leak.

It rained really hard about a month ago which is when the problem happened. It was the weekend when Diaz beat McGregor.

No, your post made it sound like you had a puddle of water on the passenger floor, was it not visible and below the carpet? Now I'm confused.

I don't sport very well, so don't get your reference but we've had a couple big storms in the last 2 months - weird that it would take so long for a problem to occur from that though.

Oh I misread.

That storm caused a puddle in my passenger side rear floor. I didn't find the puddle until my car died after exiting the freeway. I took the car to RBMS the next week and it's been there ever since.

Bunch o misreading going on.  biggrin I missed in your original post where you said it had been a couple weeks. ha, I was confused why the light rain last week would've caused any issues. ha.

Re: ECU QUESTIONS! 06 Saab 92x 2.5i Automatic

Anybody know the answers to these questions?

1. Will an ECU from any 92x work?
2. If the 92x and WRX are mechanically the same, would an ECU from a WRX work?

I believe the answers are:

1. No. It would have to be from a 2006 2.5i to work.
2. No. The 92x AERO and WRX are mechanically the same, the 92x 2.5i and IMPREZA are mechanically the same. My understanding is that an ECU from an 06-07 Impreza with a 2.5 engine will work for your car.

I may be corrected by someone smarter.

Re: ECU QUESTIONS! 06 Saab 92x 2.5i Automatic

Thanks for the info!

If anyone in the Bay Area with an 06 2.5i is willing to drive to RBMS just so they can rule out my ECU being fried I'd appreciate it!

Re: ECU QUESTIONS! 06 Saab 92x 2.5i Automatic

I think it would also need to be an ECU from a 2006 2.5i automatic, not manual.

Re: ECU QUESTIONS! 06 Saab 92x 2.5i Automatic

finding an ECU from a 2006-2007 Impreza automatic (non-turbo) shouldn't be too difficult. they made a lot of Impreza 2.5i and Outback Sports.
Expect to spend $100+ on it because its a very specific part
