Re: My project Saabaru

Replacing a flat must be fun, although it might be easier than a roadbike since it is so damn big.

Re: My project Saabaru

It would be very rare to get a flat, it is tubeless, has sealant inside to prevent thorn flats, pinch flats are not possible since there is nothing to pinch. The tires do lock on to the rim bead as a car tubeless tire, I can easily remove the tire by hand and stuff a tube in it in an emergency. I actually don't own any bicycles with tubes, they are tubeless, don't remember the last time I had to fix a flat on any of my bikes.

Re: My project Saabaru

Been too busy to get anything done on my rescue project. The R180 is in place, the rear struts are assembled and dropped off the motor at a friends shop to handle the prep work before is ready to drop in place. Removed the oil pan for inspection, sealed back with Fujibond, replacing valve cover gaskets and related hardware, removing avcs and turbo screens, gates racing belt kit, oem belt tensioner and thermostat. Replacing broken timing belt covers, new exhaust cam gears, new cam seals, new oil cooler seal, new front and rear main seals, new intake cam gear seals and new cam gear bolts. Also resurfacing the flywheel and installing a new Exady clutch kit and Perrin crank pulley. I may be forgetting some stuff, my friend is making sure the motor is going to be properly sealed and hopefully not going to develop leaks. The dude is an amazing tech and recognized locally by high end car owners. Here are some pictures at his busy shop.

Re: My project Saabaru

Test fitted the wheels, at the front end there is a 3-4mm gap between the tire and strut. At the rear the tire is slightly touching, I'm thinking a 5mm spacer should create a small gap, similar to what is like at the front. I'm also going to have to install long studs and extended nuts.

Motor is ready to go into the car.
The car is the body shop, getting the unibody damage pulled.
Paint will have to wait till the car is running good and all sorted.
Picked up a full set of 07 STi door cards, not sure what I will do with them yet.

Have a set of aluminum Gorilla lug nuts to sell, let me know if you want them. Also have a set of blue sti front seats off an 06 with the bladder remove for sale, pm me if you want them, I'll throw in the rear seat too. You can swing by anytime (flushing) if you need to check it out, have whole bunch of stuffs to get rid of, get what you see. Still haven't got a chance to visit your shop yet, always in the rush when passing by bethpage area.

After much debate as to what to do on the interior I've decided to keep the original interior and have black alcantara replace all the light color parts at some point.
I'd be interested to hear what else you have I may need.
Stop by the shop when you get a chance.

Went to visit my car since Ive not seen it in two weeks and I miss it. The body shop pulled the front damage and installed the new crash beam.

Not having the entire car painted, not building a show car. They will paint the front end (brand new hood) side skirts, rear bumper, rear hatch garnish and rear spoiler.
Hope to have it back in the next two weeks, fingers crossed.

Re: My project Saabaru

As of now I'm staying 93 octane with DW 850 injectors and a 18G of some sort, deciding between 7 or 8cm.
Hoping to sell my spare ver 8 soon, turbo money.

Re: My project Saabaru

Just as some food for thought, my local tuner is a strong believer in going bigger hotside rather than "choking" (his term) the turbo to marginally increase spool. Otherwise, particularly with higher revving motors like yours, you run out of breath up top just where it's getting good which would be sad. Just for reference, this was his old setup with a v7 EJ207.

You've probably spent plenty of time on this already and know what's best for your application, but hearing 7cm just made me want to chime in. In general I'm a happy camper with 10cm, though 2.5 motor so hard to compare directly.
