Re: And in rolls the SaaBeeru...

haha, I'll take it. at least when I suggested the dash it was 100% negative. Now I'm up to 50% positive on here and 100% positive on Nasioc of all places smile . I'm struggling a bit on time for the install, but I talked to the guy that did the engine swap on my explorer and he offered me $1200. Trying to talk him down with some work beer so as soon as the Uppipe is fabricated, I can get this car on the road and break in the engine.

Re: And in rolls the SaaBeeru...

Yeah, I'm surprised by all the wood hate out there, but my family did car restoration since I was a kid and I sold Audis in College, so it always grew on me.

Re: And in rolls the SaaBeeru...

Why are you surprised by the fake wood hate? Here's my train of thought: Older car restoration with real wood? Check... Audi with real wood? Check again... Japanese econobox with fake wood grain over plastic? Just, no. sly

HOWEVER. Your motor is gonna be the titties, so you've got that going for you. Which is nice.

Re: And in rolls the SaaBeeru...

I had never heard of those HVAC inserts. They are expensive but holy hell look so much better. Definitely on my must have list.

Re: And in rolls the SaaBeeru...

That wood grain quality is fantastic and I like it way more than I thought I would, damn!  I hadn't checked this thread in a while, you've done a lot.

Can you confirm your current "ground fx" package for me?

1.) Modified and cut v-limited front lip?
2.) OEM Sti sideskirts?
3.) Modified GT500 (Mustang?) Diffuser?

Any links for what you used would be great.  I know you've changed it a few times and i'm getting lost trying to track this down.

Re: And in rolls the SaaBeeru...

Thanks man.
1- that is the lip that I am using now, but it tore off and I am going to try an S203 lip next.
2- those are a trimmed down generic polyurethane side skirt I found online. I don't know where, Matt Vale told me about them, and they look very clean despite being cut to fit.
3- that is a brand name called GT 500, but it is made for sedan STIs. It probably needs to be redone slightly to go around the charcoal box on the right-hand side, but if you search for GT 500 diffuser for Subaru on eBay, it should come right up.

Re: And in rolls the SaaBeeru...

S203 Lip didn't even come close to fitting, FYI.

On to the big stuff, I pulled the Type-RA trains out and bolted on the Moore Performance blast plates, mismatched because they had redone one side to avoid hitting the trains tunnel on the driver's side (It hit anyway, whack that with a hammer before install if you try them, it's a PITA after the fact).

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q522/Bradrcr/SaaBeeru/Drivetrain/1CD47E5C-1B3E-4C25-AD91-27C3C2C91568_zpsf8jussil.jpg

Off to the shop! I coudn't bear to tie up my garage for that long, so I had the install done by AWD Auto in Kirkland, WA.
http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q522/Bradrcr/SaaBeeru/Drivetrain/E848D2EC-4FA5-4C7C-A3CE-24BC8436F114_zpscifv979t.jpg

Partway through install; here's the point where they should have noticed that stupid blast plate bolt:
http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q522/Bradrcr/SaaBeeru/Drivetrain/F79AFB23-F67F-4FE9-BEFF-66002BF36787_zpsuv0w3euk.jpg

And here it is, looking pretty much exactly the same, but at least I took the time to do some cleanup and work on matching the blue pieces:
http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q522/Bradrcr/SaaBeeru/Engine%20Bay/5A03632D-6A62-4331-83BE-521FCA00A5F5_zpsewmlbdgv.jpg

Since I don't have a lot to do during break in, I'm back to work on getting the lights 100% once and for all. Redid the tails with LEDs:
http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q522/Bradrcr/SaaBeeru/Lighting%20and%20Electrical/51EB4F4F-A52F-404A-B160-84A50C592721_zpszftliakn.jpg

Since my tails are blacked out, here is the comparison with just the new bulbs in the LH lens:
http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q522/Bradrcr/SaaBeeru/Lighting%20and%20Electrical/67C83448-CA79-4B69-AEB7-6A67E653AD64_zpsi9epbbax.jpg

I needed to reseal my fronts anyway to stop fogging and had some dead LEDs, so I redid the halos and integrated the LED strip so they would appear as a continuous pattern. Wired this to the turn signals so I have the Amber switchback effect (Sorry about the Amber pic quality, the turn signal bulb made this the best pic my camera could do):

Re: And in rolls the SaaBeeru...

WAY behind on an update (Social Media skills aren't what they used to be). First off, I upgraded from the FP 68HTA to a Blouch 18G-XT, side by side here with the old turbo and a TD04:

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q522/Bradrcr/SaaBeeru/Engine%20Bay/C989200E-3BBA-4970-B2FD-C5CEDF49518D_zpstowyu37f.jpg

Next, a thank you to the team at PIA in Parkland, WA; 351AWHP, 378AWTQ and my turbo lag feels the same as stock

A bit of cleanup under the hood was in order, very pleased with the look and just wish that Blue batteries weren't just for boats:

For the sake of my wife's tailbone on road trips, I swapped the stock Fortune Auto springs for swift springs:

Pretty pleased with where it's at right now, couple of small fixes is all it needs. Hopefully the next uploads are AutoX videos

Nice upgrade, that's some serious power! Any plans to take it to the track? You've got the blast plates and all.

How does the lag "feel the same as stock," though? From your graph, it looks like you're not hitting full boost until ~4500RPM. And that's starting the pull really really early.

Yeah, the graph doesn't show what I'm describing I guess. With the move to the 2.5 and the shorter gearing after 1st, getting into even a little boost never makes me miss my small turbo. I'm running higher Rpms for those speeds so I'm never at the point where the car is putting down less power or I'm feeling lag more than stock; this feels very much like I have a powerful factory turbo which I guess is what I was trying to say. That definitely wasn't true with the 68HTA on my 2.0.
I still need to reseal my headlights perfectly and then I'll definitely be doing some AutoX days. Even with the stronger gears, I don't plan on pulling any 1/4s, but who knows when the bug might grab me smile .
