2006 Linear Suspension Update / Upgrade

Hi Guys,

Good news my car that was rear ended this summer is being fixed. Now looking to update or upgrade the suspension to have it sit a bit better ( slightly lower and level  tongue ) I do enjoy a sporty ride but it is a daily driver. I have motorcycles for the weekends. So not interested in anything to harsh of a ride ext. Im looking to keep this on a bit of a budget ( under $800 ), again not looking to race and as well it is a 10 yr old linear after all.

I have been doing some research and gather the following

- Cheapest solution - STI pink wagon springs On my stock struts. they are quite old and i fear ill do all the work to replace them and then a year later have to replace a strut.

- Reasonable solution to get new struts with STI pink wagon springs ( koni, KYB, Tein ext ) Any personal favourites or combinations of struts springs welcome.

- Thrifty Solution to get 2004 Subaru STI struts and springs ( might be hard to find a good set of these that arnt as tired as my current ones ) Plus the maintanince and KLUNK potential.

- I have been looking into Tein Street Basis Z Coilover Kit . I have found them for $500-600 bucks. They adjust the ride height and seem to be placed in the replacement strut category. But i haven't found any reviews on these with out cars or even much on NASIOC. Have any of you tried these or heard good/Bad things ?

Again if it matters for compatibility i have LINEAR

Thanks !

Re: 2006 Linear Suspension Update / Upgrade

I had Cobb lowering springs paired with KYG GR-2 struts awhile ago and ride compliance was pretty terrible. That put me off lowering springs completely.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Tein so I would probably avoid their coilovers.

I had ST coilovers on my Saabaru and they were excellent. They can be had within your budget after a little bit of negotiating with Nasioc vendors. They are identical to KW V1 coilovers minus the stainless steel coating. So rust may be an issue for you in Maple Syrup land, but they do come with a 5 year unlimited mile warranty.

06' Silver Aero 5MT - Cobb Turboback, Stage II  93 octane tune, ST coilovers (KW Variant1s), Cobb short shifter, 22mm front and 24mm rear whiteline sways and endlinks, engine rebuild (Manley forged rods and pistons)
White 2015 WRX - Whiteline rear swaybar, Perrin brass shifter bushing, Cobb J pipe, Cobb Accessport, custom buzzard damage

Go with your "reasonable solution."  Your struts are probably already worn and you just don't realize it.  I had wagon-specific Pink springs and Tokico D-Specs and was very happy with ride, handling, and clearance.  The D-Specs are a lot more expensive than they used to be and needed a washer for the rears (cheap, but necessary) but I can recommend the setup.  If I got another 9-2x I'd probably replicate my old suspension setup immediately.

Re: 2006 Linear Suspension Update / Upgrade

Your thrifty option is probably not all that thrifty and would end up with klunks and sadness with the used STI struts.

I vote reasonable solution for price although per Steve, the D-specs are more expensive now and probably would bring your total cost for springs and struts to $800 w/o install and alignment included. Maybe KYB AGX adjustable struts? You have to be creative with what model year you purchase though to make them work on a wagon - not certain what years work for front and rear.

I have a friend at work who has Tein Flex coilovers for his bugeye and they ride great - he's had them for about 40k miles. Can't speak to their low-end offerings though like the Street Basis coilovers. Those don't include tophats and they should probably be replaced so you'd have to factor that into their total cost as well.

Re: 2006 Linear Suspension Update / Upgrade

Found a set of Cusco zero 1 coilovers with apparently 30,000km on them, I did some searching on here and Nasioc and cant seem to find any info on them.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks for all the recommendations above. Struts and Pinks seems to be the best solution. is Subarugenuineparts.com still the best source of Pinks ?

Thanks Guys
