Should have clarified.  Table will drop down, long axis of bed will go across bus and sit on top of dropped table and seats.  7.5' (80") wide so it should fit perfectly.  Need to work out support details, but shouldn't be too tough.  This is the mattress we currently have, hoping to reuse.

Aha, that makes a lot of sense. Only caveat I might have - proximity of bathroom to kitchen is perhaps less than ideal (not like it's ever perfect in a camper).

Depends on how you're interpreting the drawing. If the bathroom is accessible from the bike garage side, and he made every effort to seal it off, it shouldn't be too bad.  My parents have a huge fancy RV, and the bathroom is still nearly as close.

How old are your kids? I'd think about making the bed for the little ones a little longer if possible.  You're putting a lot of work into this and you might not want them to out-grow it so quickly.

3 and 5.  Per the note after the picture, planning on shortening the couch/bed for us (queen sized across the width of the bus) and lengthening the girls beds to twin sized.

Main battery might be toast.  Need to check the frame rail one tomorrow and see how it's doing.  Not enough hours in the day...

Re: So...I bought a bus.

The company that owned this bus prior to me was nice enough to send me maintenance records, most everything is up to date which is great.  They also sent me invoices for some reason.  The amount they pay on annual upkeep is astonishing.  Luckily a lot of it is fixing broken things that are either not hard to fix or I won't care if they're broken.

Re: So...I bought a bus.

Picked up 2x group 65 batteries and a noco genius onboard charger. More than I was hoping to spend but hopefully it gets me up and running. Will install this weekend, impromptu trip to northern Cali put a pause on activities.

Too bad your not closer to Iowa.  Was just talking to my brother about their need to part out the good camper bits from a wrecked toy hauler camper trailer they have.

Toy hauler bed frames would be really useful, they tend to operate in the fashion I want.  Bwa bwa.

Yeah, I guess.  I was going to blame the iphone which seems to mangle the shit out of everything I try to type, but it probably didn't do that one.   neutral

I'm not sure if there is a cheap way to get any stuff shipped that way.  I shipped an engine in a crate on Amtrak from Seattle to somewhere in Iowa for maybe $150 but that was in 2004 or 2005.

Re: So...I bought a bus.

Honestly probably not worth it, I expect it'll need to be mostly custom to work with the existing tie downs.  I do appreciate the thought though.

Snow in the forecast.  Battery install didn't happen.  Life and all that...

Be honest, you just want to get into the HOV lanes.  star

Have you been to Idaho?  We don't have HOV lanes.  We often don't have lanes at all.

Re: So...I bought a bus.

No I haven't.  I assumed Idaho had some kind of urban environment and that you lived near it.  Taterville is making sense now.

I seem to recall egging someone on into taking a bus conversion route a couple of years ago, and I feel it might have been you.  I apologize in advance.

I'm loving the two sets of doors, though.  Consider in your planning that you might not be spending that much time inside the bus, other than to sleep and drive.  And poop.  If it's for summer only trips you can set up a 'kitchen' and shower outdoors and save yourself that space.

Re: So...I bought a bus.

I am in Boise, it's urban, but we're not nearly enough to need HOV lanes.  The "traffic" around here is comical compared to real big cities.

Compared to the van we camped in all summer this thing is a mansion.  Honing in more on the design, but it's an outside vehicle and it's getting too bloody cold to work on right now.  Attention meandering back to the Exocet.

Dynamat would cost more than the bus smile.  Got any recommendations for cheap and effective bike retention inside?  Everything from my road bike to my fattie.

Instead of Dynamat I can recommend Frost King insulation its cheap but you can lay it double or triple. I double layered it into my car.
After researching for Dynamat replacement. This is the forum thread I read about: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5- … -king.html

I have the Frost King insulation in my car for the past three years and never had any smell or fumes of it.
Just my .02 cents but maybe its worth it for the bus.

Lap belts, so enough to hook up the kids seats.

It's snowing here and this monster won't fit in the garage.  I also have a racecar to finish.  Gonna be a slow season methinks.

Fun update, apparently I have to emissions test this monster.  I didn't expect that given the size, but I got a stern email talking to today.  I have until the 31st.
