Re: So...I bought a bus.

This county (Ada) and the county over (Canyon) are the only counties in the state that require emissions testing.  I mistakenly looked at the Canyon county FAQ page and they don't require emissions testing if you're over 14k GVWR, so I sent an email stating that to Ada county.  They responded with a terse "no" and pointed me to the correct FAQ page, which states: "Heavyweight vehicles, including buses, trucks, firetrucks, etc ARE required to be tested."  With any luck the thing will pass so I get to keep my taters for another 2 years  spider.

Bwa bwa.

We've had a snowier winter thus far than I can ever remember having, which could prove problematic.  There is currently a ~5' mountain of snow behind the bus and not quite enough run up room to plow it over.

Re: So...I bought a bus.

Emissions here is an easy enough affair that I'll at least try to get it properly done.  Otherwise, relatives in Montana...

And another update.  Emissions should be done shortly, then build time!

Re: So...I bought a bus.

Emissions passed!  I can finally start on the fun parts now.  After the 4 gallon oil change that is.

So what's it like living out of a bus?

Re: So...I bought a bus.

So the front and rear swing doors could really use a better method of securing and locking.  Any ideas?

Re: So...I bought a bus.

They open out correct? Do you want them to be unlocked from the outside? Do you just want to be able to unlock from the inside?

Re: So...I bought a bus.

OK. Couple of thoughts come to mind.

You can bar the door from the inside with a couple of sticks of steel. You would not want anything real heavy since you would want your wife and kids to be able to lift it if needed. Add a couple of brackets to the door itself and add some way to hold it place.

Or you could add some sort of latch. Cheap way to go would be with a simple twist latch, like on a topper, and a couple of rods.

Tear them out and replace them with locking house doors.   spider

Re: So...I bought a bus.

I'm leaning latch.  Front wants to pull open at bit at speed, latch seems more likely to help with that.

Need to check spacing but I think something like that would work.

Re: So...I bought a bus.

That should work quite nicely. Looks like there is a nice range of adjustment.

Next project - Curtains.  A ton of them.  Need to be done cheap.  Any ideas?  I was thinking cheap fabric with dowels and some sort of roll up attachment at the top.

Re: So...I bought a bus.

7.3L Diesel.  I'm still not 100% if it's the standard Ford 7.3 or the slightly different T444E.  I think the former.

Via thedieselstop.com:

... can some one explain me if there is any difference between a PowerStroke 7.3 that we have in the SuperDuty F250/350's and The International T444E Engine in the International Tow Trucks?

Same basic internals, built at the same time on the same assembly line, 444 CI = ~7.3L  Differences include:  Paint. The block for a PSD was blue, and the block for a T444E was black.  PCM. The powertrain control modules were located different and programmed different. The PSD was programmed for a pickup, with higher horsepower and higher RPM.   Fuel filter. PSD fuel filter housing was much shorter so you could close the hood on a pickup.  Coolant filter. For several years, the T444E had a coolant filter installed on the assembly line, and the PSD did not. Somebody said they don't do that anymore.  Water pump. Different water pump, heater, and engine cooling system results is a different coolant specified for the PSD.  Ford doesn't currently install the 7.3L PSD in any vehicles sold in North America, but they still sell them in some places, including Australia. The T444E is still a current option in some International models.

Hopefully that helps further identify it if you hadn't already. 7.3L is still the best engine I've ever had in a vehicle, you can literally run half diesel and half used oil in those pigs

Edit: I think the color of the block as described is wrong.

NextDoor for the win.  All the fabric was <$20.  Just need some dowels, grommets, and webbing now.

I hope you went with orange plaid.  That's the only acceptable type of curtain to put in a vehicle.

If I could find like 300 square feet of it, I would have.  Mostly beige unfortunately...

Wheelchair lift is out too.  It was...difficult.
